Hroald Eiragarn
Barbarian
Hroald Eiragarn
Species
Goliath
Appearance
A very large goliath who seems built from the same deliberate geometry as a standing stone. He is completely bald and has no facial hair, leaving the broad planes of his scalp and jaw unobscured. His skin is deep slate-gray with pale mineral flecks across his shoulders, knuckles, and spine, like quartz trapped beneath stone. He wears armor that looks impossibly heavy, layered in dark iron plates over thick gray leather, though he moves in it with patient efficiency rather than effort. When waiting, he leans slightly forward with both hands resting on the crown of his shield, placing his weight through the shield as if it were a walking staff. His expression is stern from a distance, but up close his eyes are startlingly gentle and observant. The unexpected contradiction is that his enormous hands are exceptionally careful: he handles cups, birds, and children's toys with the precision of a jeweler. He smells faintly of hot metal, juniper smoke, and clean rain, and seems unaware that the scent follows him.
“Measured and low, with long pauses that make even simple statements sound considered. He uses few contractions, avoids exaggeration, and occasionally slips into old goliath proverbs when discussing duty or grief.”

Distinguishing Features
A broad white birthmark curves from his left collarbone to the center of his chest, resembling a mountain ridge seen from above.
His shield is taller than most people and bears dozens of small copper nail heads, one for every traveler he has personally escorted through a lethal pass.
He pauses before doorways to touch the lintel with two fingers, an old goliath gesture asking the structure to hold.
His enormous armor makes almost no clatter when he walks, but his shield emits a soft wooden knock whenever he changes direction.
He wears a tiny knitted blue sock around the hilt of his backup dagger, made by one of the children he rescued.
Voice
“A resonant baritone with a dry rasp, like gravel shifted by a slow river. He speaks softly enough that others must quiet themselves to hear him, and his rare laugh sounds startlingly young.”
Clothing
Dark iron half plate over charcoal wool and layered gray leather, a weather-stained blue-green cloak fastened with a simple bone toggle, wrapped forearms, thick traveling trousers, and reinforced mountain boots. Small strips of red cloth tied to his belt represent people he has escorted safely through dangerous country.
Body Language
He stands with his shoulders squared but never aggressively raised, one boot angled toward the nearest vulnerable person rather than the nearest threat. While listening, he lowers his chin and watches the speaker's hands. When uneasy, he presses his thumb against the rim of his shield. When genuinely amused, his entire chest shakes before his face changes.
