Vespera Brass-Eye
Species
Rock Gnome
Appearance
Vespera is a compact rock gnome with a soldier's stillness and a machinist's stained fingertips. Her polished brass-and-gunmetal plate fits close to her body, each overlapping plate etched with boundary-ward circuits that catch red furnace light and scatter it in thin geometric glimmers. Four hinged lenses surround her pale gray eyes, clicking softly as they shift from canyon distance to the hairline crack in a recruit's buckle. Her silver-streaked brown hair is drawn into a severe military braid, but several loose strands curl across her cheek whenever the air turns damp. She moves with economical precision, never wasting a step, though her armor produces the faint cheerful chime of wind bells when she walks. The contradiction unsettles people: she looks like a miniature siege engine, yet she smells faintly of cardamom tea and keeps a soft felt rabbit tucked inside her breastplate.
“Her voice is low, dry, and remarkably steady, with a faint rasp from years spent breathing furnace smoke. She pronounces names carefully, as though entering them into a permanent record.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass emergency lens is permanently fused over her left eye.
Her multi-lensed spectacles click and refocus whenever she studies a person.
Her left gauntlet bears thirteen tiny notches, one for each miner saved during the Brass Spire collapse.
Her plate armor carries a hidden felt rabbit sewn into the inner breast lining.
She leaves behind the scent of hot metal, machine oil, and cardamom.
Voice
“A low, dry contralto with a furnace-rough rasp, precise diction, and a faint musical lift on Gnomish names”
Clothing
Custom-fitted brass and gunmetal plate over a dark charcoal undercoat, red watch sash, reinforced climbing boots, fingerless leather gauntlets, a weatherproof command cloak, and a narrow silver badge bearing the Last Lamp insignia.
Body Language
Vespera stands squarely with her hands clasped behind her back, brass lenses adjusting in tiny clicks. When someone lies, her head tilts by a fraction and one thumb begins counting against the knuckles. When frightened, she becomes perfectly motionless except for the slow tightening of her jaw.
