Veshka Suth
Commoner
Veshka Suth
Species
Gnome
Appearance
Veshka Suth has the compact, rounded proportions of a hill gnome, but carries herself with the grave stillness of someone much taller. Her hands are broad-knuckled and permanently dusted with pale flour and crushed dried herbs. She moves in short, deliberate steps, never quite making a sound, then suddenly crosses a room with startling speed when startled. Her most memorable feature is her breathing: ordinarily it is a soft, whistling draw through her nose, but when angry or frightened it becomes a rapid series of tiny inward sniffs, as if she is trying to smell danger before it arrives. She keeps her silver-brown hair painstakingly braided with red thread, while one stubborn lock always escapes and curls against her cheek. Unexpectedly, for someone who looks severe and ceremonial, she has a bright, childlike laugh that arrives at completely inappropriate moments.
“Low, careful, and slightly breathy, with clipped consonants and occasional soft sibilants. She speaks faster when nervous, then abruptly slows herself by counting under her breath.”

Distinguishing Features
A soft nasal whistle accompanies her breathing when she is calm.
Her silver-brown hair is meticulously braided except for one irrepressible curl.
Her palms are stained with permanent green traces from years of handling bitter herbs.
She wears a red thread around her left wrist and silently reties it whenever someone makes a promise.
Her laugh is unexpectedly bright and youthful, completely at odds with her stern expression.
Voice
“A low, breathy voice with a faint whistle beneath it, like wind through a narrow crack in a stone wall. When frightened, she speaks in quick inward breaths between words. When furious, she becomes almost inaudibly soft.”
Clothing
A soot-brown wool dress beneath a patched green apron, soft leather shoes, a red-thread sash, and a weathered blue shawl embroidered with tiny white mountain flowers. Her pockets contain salt, dried mint, chalk, and several smooth stones.
Body Language
She keeps her elbows tucked close and her hands folded over the head of her walking stick. Her chin lifts when she lies by omission. When someone mentions Suth-Kar, her breathing pauses for half a heartbeat, and the loose lock of hair is tucked behind her ear again and again.
