Appearance
Nino is a narrow-shouldered young woman with the poised stillness of someone accustomed to listening for a page turning in another room. She moves in small, economical angles, pivoting around furniture rather than brushing against it. Her hands are quick and permanently dusted at the nail beds with gray-black ink, while the rest of her skin is kept almost unnervingly clean. She wears a brass measuring chain around her left wrist, its links polished bright except for one flattened section where it repeatedly catches against the edge of her writing desk. Within a minute of meeting her, most people notice her teeth: the front two are slightly broad and square, and when she laughs, which is rare, her jaw opens with an unexpectedly wolfish breadth. The contradiction is striking: her presence is soft, sterile, and almost delicate, yet her smile suggests someone who could bite through thread, leather, or a lie.
“Low, clear, and measured. She pronounces every consonant, rarely uses contractions, and lets silence sit between sentences until the other person begins explaining themselves.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass measuring chain is always wrapped around her left wrist, with one section flattened and brightly polished from catching on her desk.
Her front teeth are broad and square, and her laugh opens her jaw wider than people expect.
The pads of her fingers are permanently gray from ink, despite her meticulous washing.
She carries a tiny bone folder tucked into her hair like a decorative pin.
Her shadow often appears to hold a quill a fraction of a second after she has moved her hand.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry, almost musical cadence. When angry, she becomes quieter and more formally polite. When speaking about lost people, a soft Georgian-like lilt enters her vowels without becoming an accent.”
Clothing
A high-collared linen shirt, charcoal waistcoat, rust-colored wool skirt divided for ease of movement, soft black shoes, and a long cream apron marked with faint rectangular stains from drying pages. Her sleeves are tied back with red thread, and her pockets contain more tools than coins.
Body Language
She keeps her elbows close to her ribs and often rests one thumb against the brass chain on her wrist. When suspicious, she tilts her head toward the nearest document instead of looking directly at the speaker. When genuinely pleased, she taps two fingers against a tabletop in the rhythm of a walking horse.
