Appearance
Ildikó Sáravai is a narrow-shouldered young woman whose stillness feels deliberate rather than timid. She has a long oval face, a soft mouth usually pressed into concentration, and dark brown eyes that rarely meet a speaker's gaze because they are constantly mapping the room: exits, shelves, inkpots, loose corners, hands near weapons. Her black hair is braided into four uneven ropes, each tied with a different color of thread, and the braids sway like pendulums when she bends over her work. Her fingertips are permanently tinted blue-black from iron gall ink, while the rest of her hands are kept meticulously clean. She moves with careful, economical precision, stepping around scattered papers without looking down. The unexpected contradiction is that her scholarly composure collapses around birds. A sparrow on a windowsill can make her freeze, smile helplessly, and forget an entire conversation.
“Precise, quiet, and measured, with long pauses while she searches for the most accurate word. Her accent carries rounded vowels and lightly clipped consonants from the river provinces.”

Distinguishing Features
Her gaze constantly surveys exits, shelves, hands, and loose objects instead of resting on faces.
Four uneven braids are tied with different colored threads, each representing a person she failed to protect or intends to find.
Her fingertips are stained with blue-black ink, but her nails are obsessively clean.
She carries a brass ruler and taps it twice against any surface before making an important decision.
A tiny folded paper bird is tucked behind her left ear and changes shape whenever she is near active magic.
Voice
“Low and clear, almost musical when she reads aloud, but clipped and practical when frightened. She has a habit of softening dangerous statements by prefacing them with, "For the sake of accuracy."”
Clothing
A high-collared charcoal scholar's coat with deep interior pockets, a faded teal waistcoat, soft linen shirt, dark trousers tucked into practical ankle boots, and a slate-gray shawl secured by a bronze pin shaped like a closed book. Her cuffs are reinforced with stitched scraps of old maps.
Body Language
Ildikó leans toward documents and away from people, unless someone is injured. Her hands are nearly always occupied with aligning pages, smoothing creases, or touching the brass clasp of her satchel. In danger, she becomes perfectly upright and motionless, with her eyes fixed on the nearest exit rather than the attacker.
