Elduin Wynmaer
Elduin Wynmaer
At the table
Voice
His voice has a warm, clear edge, with a fine rasp from years of singing over tavern noise and wind. His consonants are crisp, his vowels rounded, and his laugh comes out as a brief breath before the sound. When speaking across a noisy room, he projects from the chest rather than shouting from the throat.
Elduin speaks in clear, polished phrases, shaped by a century of adjusting to different courts and roads. He favors vivid comparisons, but drops them when someone needs plain language. He is quick to laugh at his own theatrical flourishes and careful not to make a confession sound like a performance.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Elduin begins with warmth and attentive conversation, but gives people space to set the tone. He is candid about his past when asked and does not pretend that a charming apology entitles him to another chance. He offers help, music, and information freely, while asking direct consent before using magic that affects emotions or perception.
Goal
Find and stabilize a safe chain of Fey crossings so travelers are not stranded as he once was, while making amends to people he wronged without demanding forgiveness.
Motivation
To turn his gift for making people feel seen into something more generous than seduction, and to become dependable without losing his delight in wonder.
Appearance
Elduin Wynmaer is tall and startlingly beautiful, with the stillness of someone posing for a miniature and the quick, catlike turns of a dancer. His golden-blond hair falls to his lower back in a heavy, glossy sheet, usually braided at the temples with tiny seed pearls. His warm bronze skin catches a faint, leaf-green sheen at the wrists in moonlight. His face is fine-boned but not fragile: a strong nose, a mobile mouth, and eyes that seem to hold reflections from a different sky. The unexpected detail is that his elaborate, courtly sleeves are visibly darned at both cuffs with bright, uneven thread; he refuses to replace them because the repairs were made by a former traveling companion. He moves as if every room has a rhythm, even when he is standing still. People remember the brightness of him, then the strange sense that he had been listening more carefully than they thought.
Clothing
He wears layered, Middle Eastern-inspired court attire: a long indigo coat over a cream tunic, a wrapped sash embroidered with pomegranate vines, loose trousers, soft leather boots, and a sheer scarf that moves like water. Gold-thread motifs, small bells, and seed pearls decorate the outfit without making it cumbersome. The cuffs are conspicuously darned in uneven, colorful thread, while the rest of the clothing is meticulously brushed and mended.
Body language
He angles his body toward whoever is speaking, even in a crowded room, and his fingers trace silent rhythms against his thumb. When flirting, he offers attention rather than touching without invitation. When caught in a lie, he goes unusually still and looks directly at the person he has disappointed.

Distinguishing features
Personality
14 traits and drivesElduin is playful and quick to flirt, but more observant than his dazzling entrance suggests. At a festival he is exuberant, improvisational, and eager to make a stranger laugh; when someone is frightened or grieving, he becomes practical and gives them his full attention. AC 16 · HP 112 · 30 ft.Elduin avoids a fair fight. He opens with control or misdirection, separates enemies with hypnotic pattern or wall of force, and uses mobility to keep allies out of reach. He reserves counterspell for magic likely to trap or devastate someone. If forced into close combat, he uses defensive spells and his rapier to make space, then escapes toward cover or a crossing. He does not use charm magic to override a person's romantic or intimate consent.

Background
Elduin was born among the traveling revels of the Feywild, where music, courtship, and promises were treated as different kinds of magic. A century ago, he discovered that mortal roads and Feywild crossings made excellent stages for his songs. He began wandering from realm to realm, playing for inns, courts, and roadside festivals, and courting women who delighted in his attention. For years he treated each romance as a beautiful, temporary story. That changed when he fell in love with Iriñe, a mortal mapmaker who could identify Fey crossings by the way birds avoided them. She asked him to stay through one winter. Elduin promised he would return after a final tour, but the crossing he used shifted, and decades passed before he found the way back. Iriñe had built a life without him and refused to be made into the tragic ending of his song. He accepted her choice, though it left him ashamed of how easily he had mistaken charm for care. Now he checks in on people he once left behind, helps travelers find safe routes between worlds, and tries to make promises only when he can keep them. His old habit remains a source of trouble: admirers, former lovers, and their families sometimes find him before he finds them.
Role in the story
A charming guide and possible ally whose past romances create complications rather than automatic enemies. He can connect the party to crossings, courts, and old acquaintances, while his attempt to become more reliable gives characters a chance to judge him by what he does now.

- Faction
- No formal faction. He is welcomed by some Fey revels and mistrusted by others, who consider his mortal attachments a distraction.
