Balthor Salt-Hand
Fighter, Champion
Balthor Salt-Hand
Species
Human
Appearance
Balthor is a broad, weather-beaten human with skin tanned to the color and texture of dark leather by furnace winds, salt spray, and years beneath the Aethelgard sun. His thick salt-and-pepper beard is braided at the chin with three short iron rings, each ring stamped with the name of a dead dockworker. He has a heavy jaw and large square teeth, one of them capped in dull copper. He flashes that copper tooth whenever he laughs, which is often at the wrong moment and usually loud enough to turn heads across a crowded quay. His hands are enormous, the knuckles swollen from labor rather than ornament, and his left palm is permanently roughened into a pale salt-white patch from gripping wet rope treated with alchemical brine. He moves with the rolling balance of a sailor, even on solid ground, and carries himself as though every floor might suddenly tilt. The unexpected softness of his appearance comes from his careful eyes, which linger on frightened children, injured animals, and exhausted apprentices before they ever notice a noble's uniform.
“A resonant harbor voice with a rough edge, as though every sentence has passed through smoke, wind, and a mouthful of grit. He speaks quickly when giving orders and slowly when naming the dead.”

Distinguishing Features
A copper cap on one lower tooth that flashes whenever he laughs or snarls.
A salt-white patch across his left palm from years of gripping treated dredging rope.
Three short iron rings braided into his beard, each stamped with a dead dockworker's name.
A salt-stiffened work glove tied beneath his belt, worn smooth only at the thumb from constant handling.
He unconsciously tests the floor with the heel of his boot before sitting down.
Voice
“Low, gravelly, and carrying, with the rhythm of shouted instructions across a crowded dock. His laughter is a sudden booming bark that reveals the copper tooth.”
Clothing
Heavy oilskin trousers, a reinforced leather work apron darkened by pitch, a sleeveless wool shirt, and a high-collared harbor coat lined with patched sailcloth. His boots are iron-nailed and permanently stained red-brown by volcanic sediment. A single salt-stiffened work glove hangs from his belt beside a ring of union keys.
Body Language
Balthor plants his feet wide and keeps one hand near his pike, not from nervousness but from habit. He leans toward frightened workers and away from decorated officials. During negotiations he taps two fingers against the copper-capped tooth, a small metallic click that grows faster when he suspects a lie. When he laughs, he throws his head back and shows the copper tooth without embarrassment.
