Gearwarden Pimble Trench-Cog
Species
Rock Gnome
Appearance
Gearwarden Pimble Trench-Cog is a slender rock gnome with narrow shoulders, long clever fingers, and the slightly stooped posture of someone who has spent decades bent over maps. His skin is the muted gray-brown of weathered slate, textured with fine creases around the mouth and eyes. Permanent black and violet ink stains climb from his fingertips toward his knuckles, as though his hands have been dipped in shadow. His pale eyes constantly shift from wall to wall, measuring angles, distances, and possible exits even during ordinary conversation. He moves with near-silent precision, placing each foot as if testing a bridge. The unexpected contradiction is that his careful, almost ghostly manner is accompanied by a bright crimson scarf that flutters dramatically whenever he turns, making him look like a tiny, solemn flag of warning. His oversized leather satchel bulges with red-wax-sealed vellum maps, brass calipers, folded lanterns, and objects that occasionally tick from within.
“His voice is quiet, dry, and precise, with long pauses that suggest he is listening to distant machinery. He speaks in measured clauses, often including a direction, distance, or timestamp.”

Distinguishing Features
Permanent ink stains on every fingertip
Pale measuring eyes that rarely blink
A crimson scarf that contrasts with his muted clothing
Brass spectacles with rotating lenses and tiny calibration screws
A faint rhythmic ticking heard beneath his left sleeve
A red-wax seal shaped like a three-pointed gear on his satchel
Voice
“A low, careful murmur with a faint metallic resonance, as if every word passes through a narrow brass tube before reaching the air.”
Clothing
A dark, sound-dampening surveyor’s tunic reinforced with stitched leather channels, gray trousers tucked into soft-soled tunnel boots, a bright crimson scarf, brass spectacles fitted with magnifying and dark-vision lenses, fingerless gloves, and an oversized map satchel sealed with multiple locks
Body Language
He keeps his elbows close to his ribs and his hands folded around a brass measuring chain. His head tilts toward echoes. When someone lies, he does not look at them, but instead begins measuring the nearest wall with his eyes. When genuinely angry, he becomes perfectly motionless.
