Appearance
A compact, hard-used man with the posture of someone who has spent half his life ducking beneath low stone arches. He moves with a careful, sideways economy, always leaving room for another body to pass. His skin has a faint gray-brown cast from years of damp air and mineral grime, though his hands are scrubbed obsessively clean. He smells of lamp oil, wet limestone, bitter herbs, and the sharp copper scent of old pipes, a combination he insists is medicinal. His clothes look patched and practical at first glance, but every patch is sewn with unnervingly precise stitches. The unexpected thing about him is his gentleness with delicate objects. He handles eggs, glass, and frightened children as though they are more valuable than gold.
“Low, quick, and matter-of-fact. He speaks in short phrases, rarely raises his volume, and pronounces names carefully.”

Distinguishing Features
A narrow braid behind his left ear contains three brass washers taken from broken sewer gates.
His fingernails are kept short and scrubbed pale, an unusual contrast to the permanent grime in the creases of his knuckles.
He carries the smell of wet stone, lamp oil, and bitter wormwood, and knows exactly how others perceive it.
His lower front tooth is capped with dull silver, not for fashion but to hold a tiny folded lockpick.
When standing still, he sways subtly as though balancing on a boat.
Voice
“A dry baritone with a slight rasp, like a whetstone dragged across metal. He sounds tired even when amused.”
Clothing
A waxed brown coat cut short for climbing ladders, layered over a quilted vest of boiled leather and old sailcloth. He wears soft black trousers, knee wraps, split-soled boots, and a red thread tied around his right wrist. His gloves have the fingertips removed, but the palms are lined with clean linen.
Body Language
He keeps his shoulders angled toward exits and rests two fingers against nearby stone when thinking. His face remains still during threats, but his left heel taps three times whenever he is afraid. Around children or animals, his entire posture softens.
