Tomasz Gutek
Species
Human
Appearance
Tomasz is a broad-shouldered, heavy-handed man whose work has made him strong in the slow, permanent way of oak beams and frozen roads. His lower jaw sits slightly forward, giving his grin a blunt, almost wolfish shape, and when he laughs his small front teeth show in a crowded, uneven line. He smells of horse sweat, pine tar, leather oil, and the sharp rye liquor he keeps in a copper-capped flask, though he insists the flask is for emergencies. His movements are unexpectedly careful for someone so large. He steps around puddles, sleeping dogs, and dropped cups with the precision of a dancer, then can lift a loaded axle as if it were a walking stick. People notice the laugh first, but remember the way his eyes stop smiling whenever someone touches another person's purse.
“A booming, gravel-edged voice with broad vowels and a faint northern lilt. Tomasz speaks quickly when excited, slows to deliberate syllables when bargaining, and drops almost to a whisper when he is truly angry.”

Distinguishing Features
His blunt, forward-set jaw and crowded lower teeth make every grin look slightly too eager.
He smells strongly of pine tar, horse sweat, and rye liquor, even after washing.
He carries a set of bone gambling dice with one corner filed flat, though he claims they are only lucky.
His enormous hands are gentle with frightened animals and astonishingly quick when catching falling objects.
His booming laugh can be heard through wagon canvas, rain, and the walls of a roadside inn.
Voice
“Rich, resonant, and weathered, with the carrying power of someone accustomed to calling horses through rain. His laugh arrives in a rolling burst, while his threats become soft, almost courteous, and therefore much more dangerous.”
Clothing
A weather-stained brown wool coat over a quilted gambeson, reinforced work trousers, soft-soled riding boots, a red neckerchief faded nearly pink, and a leather apron worn during repairs. His gloves are patched with mismatched pieces of yellow hide.
Body Language
Tomasz plants his feet wide, keeps one hand near his belt pouch, and leans close when listening. He rolls dice across his knuckles when thinking, rubs his thumb over the rim of his flask when angry, and turns completely still when he hears an animal in distress.
