Sæthryth
Sæthryth
At the table
“You can be glad I lived and still admit I lost something.”
Voice
A chest-resonant voice that is still deepening, with occasional roughness after long days of speaking outdoors. He shapes consonants clearly, like a teacher making sure the back row can follow, and sometimes pauses to adjust to the unfamiliar weight of his own sound.
His words are orderly and carefully chosen, shaped by years of teaching and by the need to avoid drawing attention to his history. He often frames advice as a sequence of steps. When angered, he becomes more explicit and less patient rather than softer or more formal.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Approach Sæthryth through a concrete need or a shared task. He responds well to patience, honest questions, and people who make room for grief without trying to solve it. Do not pressure him to explain his former identity in public. If someone treats his body as a joke or an uncomplicated blessing, expect him to answer with controlled anger.
Goal
Find the other scattered Far-Seven members and build a safe, practical network of mutual aid in Wessex without surrendering the truth of what he lost.
Motivation
To preserve the Far-Seven's care for one another while insisting that survival does not erase grief.
Appearance
A young Wessex man with weather-reddened skin, a faint yellow cast in his eyes when light catches them, and a narrow, flexible ridge rising beneath the skin along his spine. His shoulders have broadened quickly, and new facial hair shadows his upper lip and jaw in uneven patches. He moves with careful economy, as if still learning the reach and weight of his changed body; when tired, he rolls his shoulders to ease the strange tension along his back. His hands and sleeves often smell of chalk, wool, and woodsmoke. The unexpected detail is his habit of carrying a tiny wooden teaching pointer and tapping it against his palm while thinking, an oddly classroom-like gesture amid village roads and muddy work.
Clothing
A patched undyed wool tunic, belt, plain hose, and a hooded mantle darkened at the hem by road mud. He keeps a spare linen wrap and a small cloth tucked away to manage sweat discreetly.
Body language
He tends to stand squarely, then catches himself and shifts as if the broader shoulders belong to someone else. His gaze travels to doorways, hands, and whoever is being ignored rather than lingering on faces. When someone assumes his loss was simple, his jaw sets and his fingers close around the wooden pointer.

Personality
15 traits and drivesThoughtful and patient with frightened people, but not endlessly accommodating. He gives others the benefit of the doubt until they dismiss his loss, at which point his anger is direct and hard to deflect. In a crisis he becomes practical and steady; alone, he can feel alienated from his own appetites and physical changes. He is proud of being useful yet quietly longs to be cared for without having to earn it.

Background
Before waking in this body, Sæthryth was one of three women in the original Far-Seven, a dispersed mutual-aid fellowship, and one of the two who awoke in male bodies. She remembers her former body and identity clearly. In her former life she taught in a public school, where she learned to make frightened children feel that confusion was survivable. The change left that patience intact but made ordinary bodily facts feel newly strange: a deepening voice, unfamiliar strength, facial hair, heavier sweating, and shifts in hunger and libido that he manages privately and without humor. The Far-Seven's first winter in Wessex was formative. When a fever swept through a household sheltering the group, Sæthryth organized lessons for children and care rotations for the sick; one child survived, but the family later dispersed, leaving him convinced that practical help matters even when it cannot repair every loss. He now moves between settlements, teaching letters and useful skills where welcome, while trying to find the other transformed members. His closest ongoing bond is with a fellow Far-Seven traveler who insists that the new body is a gift; Sæthryth loves them and resents that easy certainty. He also worries that local suspicion of uncanny blood will make the fellowship's work dangerous.
