Mairen Pálqui is breathtaking in the way a lightning-struck mountain is breathtaking. She has an elegant face, a narrow mouth, and high cheekbones dusted with faint gray freckles that move when she casts spells. Her movements are slow and ceremonial until violence begins, when she becomes startlingly quick, folding and turning like a dancer avoiding falling glass. Her skin is warm to the touch despite the necrotic sigils beneath it. The contradictory impression she leaves is that of someone both impossibly alive and already half remembered.

Her sleeves are lined with pockets for bone needles, vials, chalk, and folded scraps of burial cloth. She wears soft black boots and a single copper earring shaped like a closed eye.
Body Language
She keeps one hand near her throat as if checking for a pulse that may not be there. When lying, she becomes perfectly still. When angry, her fingers begin weaving invisible knots in the air, and nearby corpses turn their heads toward her.
