Manolo Sanchez
Manolo Sanchez
At the table
Voice
A dry, carrying voice with a faint gravelly edge, shaped by dust, smoke, and years of speaking over crowds. His laugh arrives easily, but his silences feel deliberate.
His speaking voice has a dry, road-worn rasp from dust, smoke, and years of projecting over market noise. He clips the ends of practical instructions but lets a story breathe, shaping consonants carefully so a crowd can follow every name. When furious, he speaks faster and more plainly, with no flourish to soften the point.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Meet directness with directness, but begin with a small kindness rather than a performance. He trusts people who admit what they want and who remember the names of ordinary people. If the party is in danger, he stops negotiating and helps first; later, he asks what their choices cost others.
Goal
Stop the border feud, recover the erased name from the memorial wall, and return home before his father has to ask twice.
Motivation
He believes a song can give people room to choose differently, but he wants to prove that belief through action rather than applause.
Appearance
Manolo looks like a man built for long roads and awkwardly formal introductions: sun-browned skin, a narrow mustache, and dark hair swept back with more care than his travel-stained coat deserves. His stride has a measured, slightly side-favoring roll from years of carrying a guitar and a sword on the same hip; when he stops, he becomes startlingly still, as if listening for a note no one else can hear. Dust has polished his knuckles and weather has roughened the back of his neck. Unexpectedly, he keeps a tiny pressed-flower tucked in the lining of his sword belt, protected as carefully as a family relic.
Clothing
A dark indigo riding coat with faded gold stitching, a cream shirt, a red neckerchief, fitted trousers, and scuffed riding boots. His sword belt is arranged with fussy neatness, while his sleeves and coat hem are travel-worn.
Body language
His right thumb silently counts beats against his belt when he is thinking. He turns his shoulders toward whoever is being ignored, and when a decision is difficult he plants both feet as if bracing against a horse's sudden movement.

Combat
AC 17 · HP 164 · 30 ft.Manolo opens by reading the enemy's intent and protecting allies with control or defensive magic. He uses Greater Invisibility or positioning to avoid being pinned down, then mixes precise rapier attacks with Blade Flourishes. Against groups he favors Hypnotic Pattern, Synaptic Static, or crowd-shaping movement; against a single dangerous foe he uses Hold Monster, Psychic Scream, or a carefully timed counterspell. He spends Bardic Inspiration to keep allies standing and reserves at least one reaction for Counterspell or Cutting Words.

Background
Manolo Sanchez grew up among cattle pens and market stages, the son of a family that considered music a pleasant hobby and bravery a practical duty. His mother taught him old ballads while his father taught him to sit a frightened horse. When a stampede tore through the town's celebration, Manolo froze beside a fallen child until a traveling musician's song gave him the courage to move. The child lived, but the musician died, and Manolo learned that courage can arrive late and still matter. He left home with that musician's battered guitar and spent years playing for villages, soldiers, and the dead remembered in their families' stories. Now he is trying to prevent a border lord from turning a local feud into a war. His sister Ines wants him to come home and take responsibility for their aging father's ranch; his old traveling companion Otxa, a graveyard keeper, has asked him to find a name erased from the town's memorial wall. Manolo has not told either of them how closely those troubles are connected.
