Yori
Yori
At the table
Voice
A quick, slightly breathy voice shaped by calling across wet alleys and speaking around a mouthful of stolen market fruit. The consonants land crisply, while the ends of sentences sometimes tumble away as Yori spots something more urgent.
Yori speaks in quick, compact phrases, with the clipped rhythm of someone used to passing messages over rain and market noise. They shape words carefully when repeating directions, but swallow endings when excited. Their laugh is a sudden bark, and they often use street sounds or river comparisons to explain a plan.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Yori tests strangers with small, harmless questions about the neighborhood. They warm quickly to people who listen to children and treat animals kindly, but become evasive around officials. Offer useful help without pity, and Yori may share what they know.
Goal
Find Tika, prove what happened to the flood barrier, and keep the riverside homes standing.
Motivation
Yori wants to turn the guilt of the bridge disaster into something useful: seeing trouble early and getting people out before the worst happens.
Appearance
Yori is a wiry child with a surprisingly broad jaw and small, square teeth that show whenever they grin. Their short, springy steps seem to place them on the edges of their boots; while waiting, they lean forward with their weight over their toes, as if the floor might suddenly become a riverbank. Their skin has a warm brown tone, their hair forms tight black coils usually mashed flat beneath a cap, and their dark eyes keep flicking toward exits and rooftops. They leave the impression of a sparrow that has learned exactly how far a cat can jump. Unexpectedly for a rooftop runner, they carry a little bundle of dried herbs and know how to soothe frightened animals.
Clothing
A patched, dark-green hooded jacket, soft trousers, wrapped boots, and a patched cap with a hidden pocket in its lining. The cuffs are carefully mended in bright thread because Yori refuses to let Tika's stitches go to waste.
Body language
Waits pitched slightly forward, heels light and shoulders loose. Their eyes move before their head does. When someone speaks earnestly, Yori's hands become very still; when they are lying, they rub a thumb over a chipped wooden bead.

Background
Yori grew up in the flood-prone lower quarter of Kestrel Ford, running messages between roof gardens and ferry landings for their aunt, Tika. They learned the alleys by smell: wet rope, yeast, fish scales, and the bitter smoke from the dye works. At eight, a storm broke the old river barrier. Yori was sent to fetch help, but froze when they heard people trapped below a collapsing footbridge. Their friend Garen went back without them and suffered a crushed leg. Yori still carries the guilt, and the two now argue whenever Garen insists on taking risks. Since then, Yori has trained to move quickly and notice danger early. They secretly pass warnings to the residents before the district's landlords send enforcers to clear them out. Now the landlords plan to demolish the riverside homes, and Tika has vanished after discovering a map showing that the flood barrier was deliberately weakened.
