Feshti Suyat
Feshti Suyat
At the table
Voice
A rough, breath-driven rasp shaped by years of calling warnings over wind and wagon noise. His words catch slightly on hard consonants, and he often finishes a sentence with a small outward breath, as though clearing dust from the road.
He speaks in short, load-bearing sentences, with pauses where he expects an answer rather than agreement. His vocabulary favors roads, weight, shelter, and tools. When he jokes, the humor is dry and arrives so plainly that listeners sometimes miss it.

How to play them
He offers a task before he offers trust. Be candid about risks and obligations, and he will listen carefully. If the party protects people at a cost to themselves, he becomes a dependable ally. If they treat workers as disposable, he turns cold and refuses to help them.
Goal
Keep Tarn and Keg's rival crews from being used as expendable labor, and build enough trust between them that they can refuse a dangerous job together.
Motivation
To become the kind of leader who chooses people before cargo, and to earn forgiveness without demanding it.
Appearance
Feshti is a compact, broad-shouldered dwarf with the dense, settled presence of a stone post sunk deep into a riverbed. His skin is weather-browned and faintly rough, like old leather rubbed with grit. His thick black hair is clipped close at the sides and tied into a short, practical tail. When he smiles, the front of his jaw shifts visibly to one side, showing square, blunt teeth with a conspicuous gap where a lower tooth never grew in. He chews slowly, as if measuring every bite, then laughs in a sudden gravelly burst that makes the gap flash. One hand keeps returning to the brass buckle on his belt, checking its tongue even when it is already fastened. Despite his hard-edged work as a caravan guard, he folds scraps of paper into tiny birds and leaves them on windowsills for children to find.
Clothing
A charcoal wool coat reinforced at the shoulders, a weatherproof green scarf, boiled-leather armor beneath, and mud-dark trousers. His belt carries a brass buckle polished bright by constant checking.
Body language
Stands with his feet planted wide and his shoulders angled toward the nearest route out. He checks his belt buckle with his thumb, presses his lips together when weighing a promise, and tilts his jaw slightly when deciding whether a joke is safe. When relaxed, he sits heavily but keeps one hand free.

Background
Feshti grew up hauling stone and timber beside the mountain road at Kett's Turn, a switchback crossing named for a ferryman whose work vanished when the river changed course. He learned early that a safe crossing depended less on strength than on watching what people did when they thought nobody was looking. At thirty-seven, a rockslide trapped his younger brother, Ordek, beneath a wagon. Feshti could have freed him quickly by cutting a load of medicine loose, but hesitated when the caravan master threatened to dock the entire crew's wages. By the time he chose his brother over the cargo, Ordek had lost the use of one leg. Feshti left the road crew and spent years learning to command guards, determined never again to let a contract decide who deserved saving. He now protects caravans for Tarn and Keg, an unwilling merger of two rival local road companies. Its manager, Galt, expects him to keep the peace while quietly squeezing both crews. Feshti sends part of his pay to Ordek, who runs a modest repair shop and refuses to let his brother call it restitution. Their affectionate arguments are the one place Feshti's discipline reliably fails.
Role in the story
A seasoned ally who can hire the party, guide them through a dangerous road region, or become an obstacle if they endanger people for profit. His hidden part in Ordek's accident gives the group a personal moral conflict to uncover.
