Basalt-04
Species
Tectonic Forged, Star-Sand Calibrated
Appearance
Basalt-04 is assembled from rough-hewn black basalt blocks, each one worn smooth at the corners by years of patrols through crowded barracks corridors. Copper straps cross their shoulders, ribs, and forearms, greened slightly where steam and sweat have touched the metal. A low yellow glow pulses inside the Star-Sand chest core, brightening whenever they hear a structural groan or a raised voice. Their hands are broad stone tools, with fingertips polished to a dull shine from years of resetting masonry and lifting injured workers. They move with startling gentleness for something built like a siege engine, placing each foot carefully and turning their whole torso before speaking. The unexpected contradiction is their delicate habit of arranging spilled cups and broken crockery into neat little rows during an argument, as if order itself could cool the room.
“Measured and precise, with a low resonance that seems to come from the floor as much as from their throat. Their pauses are deliberate, and their voice becomes warmer through rhythm rather than volume.”

Distinguishing Features
A yellow Star-Sand core glows beneath a circular lattice of copper ribs in their chest.
Their stone fingertips are unusually smooth from years of hands-on masonry repair.
A narrow strip of pale basalt runs from the crown of their head to the nape, resembling a natural seam in quarried stone.
Their left shoulder bears dozens of tiny engraved tally marks recording buildings they have stabilized.
Their throat emits a faint furnace-hum before they speak.
Voice
“A deep, furnace-warm contralto with a faint metallic overtone. Before speaking, Basalt-04 draws in a slow breath that sounds like air entering a forge.”
Clothing
A sleeveless charcoal maintenance coat hangs from their copper shoulder braces, reinforced with leather panels and stitched with the white-and-red marks of the Bastion-Flank Commons. They wear a broad tool belt, iron-shod work sandals, and a faded warden's sash tied around the left hip. Their armor is practical, scarred, and regularly oiled.
Body Language
Basalt-04 keeps their shoulders square and their hands open at waist height. During tense conversations, they slowly rotate one copper wrist strap until it clicks into place. When someone lies, their chest glow narrows to a thin yellow line and their head tilts toward the nearest wall, listening for something beneath the words.
