Rook Coil-Tooth
Rogue, Inquisitive
Rook Coil-Tooth
Species
Cinderclaw, Tunnel-Runner
Appearance
Rook is a compact Cinderclaw with dark ash-grey scales that catch blue in furnace light and a narrow wedge-shaped head built for slipping through service tunnels. His scales are smooth along the snout and shoulders but roughen into overlapping plates around the neck, elbows, and knees. He moves with a quick, economical crouch, never quite still even when standing. His most noticeable feature is his mouth. Two blunt lower tusks press over his upper lip, and when he speaks quickly they click against his teeth like a tiny pair of castanets. He has a habit of touching the brass corner of his messaging slate whenever he counts. The contradiction is immediate: his severe military harness and clipped posture suggest a hard, joyless officer, yet he keeps one soft blue thread tied around his left wrist and smiles openly at children, cooks, and wounded laborers.
“Fast, clipped, and densely organized. Rook often speaks in numbered fragments, sector names, and exact time intervals.”

Distinguishing Features
Two blunt lower tusks overlap his upper lip and click softly against his teeth when he speaks or eats.
A brass-plated messaging slate is always strapped to his left forearm, its surface crowded with erased marks and tiny sector codes.
He carries a blue thread bracelet made from his father's old dispatch cord.
His tail is short and stiff, used more for balance than display, and flicks sharply whenever he detects a lie.
His signal flags are color-coded by emergency level, but several have been hand-stitched from old family clothing.
Voice
“A quick, dry tenor with a faint rasp, as though every word has passed through soot. His volume stays low even during alarms, forcing listeners to lean toward him while the fortress bellows around them.”
Clothing
A dark leather harness crosses his chest and hips, crowded with signal flags, waxed chalk, coded ribbons, charcoal sticks, spare slate plates, and small brass fasteners. He wears a soot-stained sleeveless tunic, reinforced tunnel trousers, soft split-soled boots, and a hooded half-cape lined with heat-resistant cloth. His belt carries a red dispatch cord for emergencies and a blue thread bracelet he never removes.
Body Language
Rook leans forward when listening, tilting his head until one horn-like scale ridge catches the light. His fingers constantly test the slate's brass corner, his signal-flags, or the edge of a belt clasp. When angry, he stops moving entirely except for the slow clicking of his lower tusks against his teeth.
