Unit 14-Refract is a meticulously articulated Gearforged frame of polished dark-iron, reinforced brass plating, and narrow silver guide-rails that gleam like surgical instruments. Its primary optical receptor is an integrated high-intensity lampwright's lens, encircled by rotating calibration rings and a hairline crack repaired with amber resin. Beneath its ribbed chest chassis, a soft aether-core pulses with the steady rhythm of a calm heartbeat. Its fingers are stained with sealing wax, graphite, and technical grease, while its joints make almost no sound during movement. Refract walks with the measured glide of a hanging pendulum, yet can pivot with startling insect-like speed when danger appears. The contradictory impression is unmistakable: it looks like a severe municipal machine built to enforce compliance, but its carefully repaired dents and tiny brass flower etched beneath the left shoulder suggest an almost sentimental keeper of lost things.
