Lady Wes Snowsden
Lady Wes Snowsden

Voice
A dry, grain-edged voice with a steady chest resonance, shaped by years of calling instructions outdoors. She speaks deliberately in conversation and quickens into precise, crowded phrases when absorbed in a design. Her laugh is a rough, open bark.
Her voice has a dry, grainy edge shaped by years of calling instructions across wind and work yards. She speaks at a deliberate pace, with a low chest resonance that makes even a practical observation sound final. Her vowels are rounded and plain; when describing a design, she speeds up and stacks precise terms together. Her laugh is a rough, open bark.

How to play them
She is generous with skilled, honest people and quietly tests grand promises by asking who pays the cost. Show respect for local needs and she will share her knowledge, shelter, and magic. Conceal a danger to the hamlets and she becomes a formidable obstacle.
Goal
Prevent Lord Kett from diverting the spring, while completing a living winter shelter that will survive the next three blizzard seasons.
Motivation
To make useful beauty without sacrificing people to it, and to ensure that the next generation of makers can challenge a patron without being ruined.
Appearance
Lady Wes Snowsden has a bear's brow and broad, blunt nose plainly showing through her shifter features. Shaggy white hair, coarse as carded wool, escapes its pins around a face creased by wind and long concentration. Her jaw is broad, and when she laughs her square, slightly yellowed teeth show in an unexpectedly frank grin. She moves with a heavy, measured sway, placing each foot as if testing lake ice. Her presence is at once formidable and oddly homey, like a snowbound house with its door already open.
Clothing
A black mourning gown of thick wool, patched discreetly at the elbows and hem, with a high collar and deep pockets. A silver snowflake brooch fastens it at the throat. She wears felt-lined boots, a weathered fur mantle, and a belt carrying pruning shears and a narrow wooden measuring rule.
Body language
Her shoulders remain squared as if bearing a pack, even when seated. She repeatedly checks the silver snowflake brooch with the pad of her thumb, then catches herself and folds her hands. When pleased, her jaw loosens and she shows her broad, square teeth; when worried, she works her molars as if testing a tough crust.

AC 15 · HP 52 · 30 ft.She prefers to control the ground and protect allies rather than chase enemies. She opens with Entangle or Spike Growth, uses Healing Word to keep an ally standing, and attacks from behind cover with Produce Flame or her staff. If cornered, she shifts, absorbs the first blow with temporary hit points, and uses her claws to make space. She avoids lethal force when a foe can still be restrained or driven off.

Background
Lady Wes Snowsden was once a celebrated maker of winter gardens, living sculptures grown from trained willow, lichen, ice, and hardy alpine flowers. Her creations were commissioned for public feasts and funerals alike. In middle age she designed a living snow maze for the Frostwake court; during a sudden thaw, its hidden channels flooded a workers' quarter. Wes saved several children but could not reach her apprentice, Talla, who drowned beneath the collapsed icework. She abandoned grand commissions and spent years learning how to read snowpack, river ice, and the moods of the land. Her work now serves villages: windbreaks, root cellars, living bridges, and shelters that can endure blizzards. She still accepts one or two public commissions each year, partly to keep her craft alive and partly because she cannot bear to let beauty become only a reminder of failure. Her former patron, Lord Kett, wants her to build a ceremonial winter garden over a newly discovered spring. Her niece, Brinka, urges her to refuse; the spring feeds several hamlets downstream. Wes is secretly helping Brinka document the water flow while pretending to negotiate with the lord.
