Orun Mbele
Fighter
Orun Mbele
Species
Awakened animal, hawk
Appearance
Orun is a tall hawk-headed man with a narrow, powerful frame and a soldier's economical posture. His feathers lie in layered bands of umber, rust, and sun-bleached gold, with darker tips that make his folded wings resemble a weathered cavalry cloak. His hooked beak is pale at the base and darkens toward the point. He moves with a strange contradiction: every motion is controlled and military, yet his head makes sudden, birdlike adjustments whenever he hears a distant sound. His talons are broad and blunt from years of handling ammunition, reins, and rifle stocks, with faint black oil permanently worked into the grooves. Before speaking, he draws a slow breath through his beak and gives a soft, dry throat-click. The first impression he leaves is not menace but watchfulness, as though the entire room has become a landscape he is mapping from the air.
“His voice is low, dry, and surprisingly gentle, with a faint rasp like paper dragged over wood. He speaks slowly enough to make every sentence sound deliberate.”

Distinguishing Features
His talons are unusually broad and polished smooth from decades of weapon handling.
A small cluster of white neck feathers forms a crescent beneath his beak, resembling a cravat.
His left wing carries three old brass service tags braided into the flight feathers.
He always smells faintly of gun oil, cedar shavings, and bitter coffee.
His shadow often shows his wings spreading a fraction before he consciously moves.
Voice
“Low, dry, measured, and gentle, with a rasping undertone and a soft throat-click before difficult answers.”
Clothing
He wears a sand-colored duster cut around his wings, a tobacco-brown waistcoat with cartridge loops sewn inside, and faded military trousers tucked into high leather riding boots. His old service sash is wrapped twice around his waist beneath the coat. A battered black hat has been reshaped with a tall slit so his crown feathers can pass through it. Brass buttons bear the worn insignia of a railway regiment that officially no longer exists.
Body Language
He keeps his shoulders square and wings tucked close, but his primary feathers twitch when he is lying. When attentive, he tilts his head nearly sideways and fixes one eye on the speaker. When grieving, he becomes unnaturally still and grips the brim of his hat with both talons.
