Voice

Her voice has a dry, clear edge shaped by years of projecting over a bazaar and a slightly breathy finish from sustained dance work. She places prices with crisp emphasis, lets jokes land without smiling, and changes to a quick, practical cadence when danger is near.

She speaks Galactic Basic with precise, market-honed diction and a faint Ryl accent. Consonants are crisp from years of calling prices above crowd noise; her rhythm sometimes slips into the measured counts of dance instruction. She does not sing her words. When angry, she gets faster and more specific, naming people, costs, and consequences.

Speech patterns

Uses the language of prices and quality to disguise questions: "Is that a fair weight for a promise?"
Answers direct threats with practical questions about exits, witnesses, and who will pay for broken goods.
Speaks in clipped phrases while Brann is present, then becomes more expansive and teasing with trusted people.
Names a dance step before making a sudden move, as if offering the other person a chance to understand.

How to play them

Initially treats visitors as customers and assesses their hands, companions, and likely intentions. Offers small truths to test whether they keep confidence. If someone shows genuine concern for captives, she may risk giving them a coded warning; if they threaten her or draw attention, she becomes brisk and redirects them toward a purchase.

Goal

Get the shackle removed, secure a safe route for the other captives, and find out whether Odrin survived.

Motivation

Freedom matters to her, but not as a solitary prize. She wants to turn the skills she was forced to perform into a way to get other people out alive.

Appearance

A young sapphire-blue Twi'lek with a compact, powerfully conditioned dancer's build, narrow shoulders, and strong calves. Their posture folds forward as if resting, but their weight is already balanced to spring. Amber eyes flecked with copper track hands and exits. Indigo lekku, rooted in black-violet, drape over one shoulder; tiny brass rings climb the left one. Their skin has a faint satin sheen where years of dry market air and lantern heat have polished the cheekbones, while their palms and finger pads are visibly roughened by rope, jewelry wire, and repeated floorwork. Fine piercings line one ear. The unexpected detail: while selling costly ornaments, she keeps a tiny, badly mended child's sock tucked through her belt, as if it were a talisman. She rests on a low stool behind the stall, barefoot, legs stretched along its edge and soles turned toward customers, in a pose that reads as boredom until the instant she moves.

Clothing

Layered sapphire performance wraps and a translucent overskirt over secure underlayers, held by brass clasps; ornate armbands, a carved collar, stacked bangles, thigh ornaments, and calf bands. The fabrics are elegant but arranged for quick movement. A heavy shackle circles her left ankle, its short chain disappearing behind the stall.

Body language

At rest she appears almost carelessly sprawled, but her toes flex against the stool and her shoulders remain poised over her hips. She angles one lekku toward anyone she trusts and coils both close when threatened. When calculating, she rolls a brass ring along a finger without looking at it.

Personality

13 traits and drives

Wenara is watchful and dryly funny, but the humor is a shield rather than a lack of feeling. With customers she can seem detached and almost lazy; with frightened captives she becomes direct, attentive, and unexpectedly gentle. She distrusts promises yet remembers every kindness. When cornered, she turns practical rather than pleading, and her patience can abruptly become a daring gamble if someone vulnerable is at risk.

Alignment
Pragmatic and protective; distrusts grand causes until they prove useful to people in immediate danger.

Quirks

Taps a three-beat dance rhythm against the stool whenever someone lies about their name.
Arranges beads into a tiny spiral before opening the stall each morning.
Keeps the child's sock tucked through her belt and touches it before taking a risk.
Refuses to step on a fallen coin, even when it belongs to a customer.
Gives names to particularly stubborn pieces of jewelry, then argues with them under her breath.

Habits

Counts customers by their reflections in polished metal rather than turning her head.
When anxious, rearranges a display into a pattern that encodes a warning for people who know her dance notation.
Tests any new person with a harmless question about the price of a worthless bead, watching whether they bargain honestly.
Never lets Brann see her look toward the shackle chain's anchor point.

Keeps too many decisions to herself and mistakes secrecy for safety.

That Odrin is alive but believes Wenara abandoned her.
Being forced to use her skills to lure another captive into danger.

Wants and needs · 4

A key or safe way to remove the ankle shackle.
A trustworthy route off-world for several captives, not just herself.
Reliable news of Odrin and Cerys.
A moment in which she can choose what to do with her own body and time.

Custom Star Wars-compatible mechanic. when a check matters, roll a number of six-sided dice equal to the relevant skill rank; each 5 or 6 is a success. Difficulty is set by the GM. This is a homebrew resolution note, not an official Star Wars rules claim.

Market Vanish. Once per scene, she can use a nearby display, hanging cloth, or overturned stool to break sight lines and move to cover, provided the surroundings support it.

Reactions

Counterturn. When a foe grabs her or the stall, she twists around the contact and uses a planted foot to shove them into the counter. Custom profile: on a successful opposed close-combat check, the attacker is displaced or loses their grip.

Background

Wenara was born on Ryloth and trained in dance by her aunt, who taught her that rhythm could hide a message as easily as it could draw a crowd. A slaver raid scattered their family. Wenara was sold through several owners before a merchant named Brann bought her and put her to work displaying jewelry at a cramped bazaar stall. She learned prices, faces, and the small pauses that meant a customer was reaching for a weapon. The formative change came when a child named Cerys slipped beneath the stall during a crackdown. Wenara could have kept quiet and protected herself; instead she used a dance step to draw guards away, allowing Cerys to escape through a service hatch. Brann punished her and added the ankle shackle. Now she sells ornaments under his eye, quietly diverting a little stock and information toward escapees. Her aunt, Odrin, is rumored to be alive in a neighboring settlement, while Brann's debt to a local enforcer is coming due. Wenara has begun planning a break for herself and several other captives, but the route depends on whether Cerys can get word back to her.

Role in the story

A vivid market contact and potential ally whose stall offers rumors, jewelry, and a concealed route into a local slave-trading operation. She has her own escape plan and will not automatically trust the party or become their guide.
