Voice

A clear, slightly dry voice with a little rasp from dungeon dust and too many days of rationed water. Her breath support is trained from performing in crowded rooms, so she can carry a sentence over noise without raising it into a shout. When tired, consonants catch at the back of her throat; when amused, her laugh begins with a sudden, toothy snort.

Her Basic is clear and carefully paced, shaped by years of projecting to a room without shouting. She clips her words when speaking to guards and leaves small pauses for frightened people to answer. Her Ryl is quicker and more intimate, full of soft clicks and lekku gestures. She uses rhythm as a private signal, not as a constant flourish.

Speech patterns

Asks questions that sound casual but establish who has authority, where the exits are, and what the other person wants.
Uses performance and stagecraft metaphors sparingly: a guard is an audience, a corridor is a bad entrance, a plan needs a clean exit.
When comforting someone, speaks in short instructions and gives them a rhythm to follow.
When bargaining, names concrete terms and repeats them exactly, as though making sure nobody can later change the deal.

How to play them

Treat Ressa as a wary person rather than a helpless captive. Give her space, state what you want plainly, and do not touch her restraints without permission. She responds to concrete offers, especially food, information, or aid for Tikk and the other prisoners. A credible plan earns more trust than grand promises.

Goal

Get herself and the prisoners who choose to come with her out of the dungeon, then find out whether her mother is safe.

Motivation

To turn survival into a choice again: first for herself, then for the people who have been left behind in the cells.

Appearance

Ressa sits as if the cramped cell were a stage she has already measured: back easy against the stone, knees apart for balance, and shoulders held in a dancer’s poised readiness. Her rubis-red skin has a satin sheen where amber lantern light catches her cheekbones, while cool blue shadow gathers beneath her jaw. Her two red lekku, rooted in deep black-violet, fall over one shoulder; a line of tiny brass rings climbs one of them. She has no external ears. Her amber eyes, flecked with copper, watch visitors with a tired, careful appraisal. Her broad, expressive jaw and slightly prominent front teeth are unexpectedly noticeable: when she laughs, the grin is open and almost disarming; when she eats, she takes quick, practical bites without looking away from the room. She occupies more space than her slight frame seems to warrant, then folds herself compactly the instant someone else needs room. Dust coats her bare soles, and chipped sapphire polish remains on her pointed nails.

Clothing

A torn remnant of a once-pristine slave costume: a cropped wrap top, sapphire performance wraps, and a translucent, frayed sarong held by ornate brass clasps. She wears a carved collar, stacked bangles, armbands, toe rings, and chains. A heavy shackle circles her left ankle; its long chain coils across the floor and tethers to the wall behind her.

Body language

She moves with economical dancer’s control, planting her feet as if the floor might shift. Her left ankle’s shackle makes her favor that side only when she thinks nobody is watching. She holds eye contact, but turns her body slightly toward the nearest exit. When afraid, she presses her tongue briefly behind her prominent front teeth and taps a measured pattern against her thigh.

Distinguishing features

A row of tiny brass rings climbs one red lekku, each worn smooth from her thumb.
Her broad jaw and prominent front teeth make her candid grin unexpectedly memorable.
She can take up a room with poised stillness, then fold herself into a narrow space without fuss.
A heavy ankle shackle and long tether chain remain attached to her.

Personality

13 traits and drives

Ressa is warm in practical ways and guarded in personal ones. She will share food or a useful observation before she shares a memory. With frightened prisoners she becomes patient and almost gently funny; with guards she is watchful, blunt, and willing to provoke them if it buys someone else a moment. She hates being treated as fragile, but privately longs for a place where she can stop measuring every exit.

Alignment
Pragmatic and compassionate, but willing to deceive or hurt someone who threatens the people she protects.

Quirks

Taps a rhythm with her heel before answering a difficult question, even when the chain makes the beat uneven.
Turns brass rings on her lekku in order from largest to smallest when she is planning.
Names the rats in the dungeon after famous dancers, then denies doing so.
Refuses to drink the last mouthful of water until she has checked whether anyone else is thirsty.
When she hears a door latch, she briefly bares her teeth in a grin, a habit from learning to smile through stage fright.

Habits

Counts exits, guards, and loose objects whenever she enters a room, disguising the habit as casual curiosity.
Uses small, steady rhythms to calm frightened people and to coordinate plans without speaking.
Offers the first portion of any food she gets to someone weaker, then insists she has already eaten.
When someone threatens another prisoner, she becomes direct and physically still rather than theatrically defiant.

Traits · 3

Protective but not sentimental: she helps people because they are in danger, not because she expects to be liked.
Proud of her performance craft, yet uncomfortable when anyone frames her survival as entertainment.
Quick to joke when tension rises, then sharply observant when the laughter fades.

Flaws · 3

She takes responsibility for other prisoners even when doing so undermines her own escape.
She keeps useful information close, including from potential allies, until trust is earned.
She can mistake a controlled, quiet room for a safe one.

Fears · 3

That her mother will risk her life trying to find her.
That the prisoners will mistake her practical leadership for a promise she cannot keep.
Being forced to perform for the people who imprisoned her.

Wants and needs · 4

A chance to leave without abandoning the other prisoners.
Clean water and food enough to regain strength.
Proof that her mother is alive and safe.
A trustworthy ally who will honor a plan even when it becomes difficult.

Combat

HP 18 · Custom profile: ordinary walking pace when unencumbered; the ankle tether restricts her movement to the chain’s length while secured.

Ressa avoids a fair fight. She uses the cell’s narrow space, chain length, and distractions to disrupt pursuers, then targets a grip, knee, or weapon hand and escapes toward cover. She will risk herself to create an opening for another prisoner. The statistics and damage expressions here are a clearly custom cinematic profile, not a claim about a particular canonical Star Wars edition.

Custom feature. Chain-Sense. Ressa can read tension through a chain she holds, giving her a brief warning when someone moves against its line. This is a narrative edge, not a canonical Twi'lek or Star Wars rule.
Custom feature. Performer’s Balance. Years of dance training let her keep her footing on narrow ledges and shift her weight quickly, though the ankle shackle limits her reach.

Actions

Chain Lash. Custom cinematic mechanic: Ressa lashes out with the chain. On a successful close-combat check, she deals damage and may pull a nearby target off balance. The target can avoid being pulled with a successful opposed Strength check.
Barefoot Strike. Ressa drives a knee or heel into a target at close range. On a successful unarmed attack check, she deals damage. If she has room to move, she can use her dancer’s balance to shift one step after the strike.
Distraction. Ressa snaps a loose clasp, stone chip, or other small object at a guard to draw attention or create an opening. This deals no meaningful damage; it is a distraction and requires a suitable object.

Reactions

Tether Intercept. When a nearby ally or prisoner is grabbed, Ressa snaps the tether taut or hooks the chain around the aggressor’s wrist. On a successful opposed check, she interrupts the grab or gives the target a chance to break free. This is a custom cinematic reaction.
Take the Spotlight. When a guard turns toward a vulnerable prisoner, Ressa makes a sharp noise or throws a small object to draw attention to herself. The guard may redirect their focus; this does not compel a specific response.

Services they sell

Can identify prison routines and likely guard blind spots.
Can help coordinate a quiet escape or organize frightened captives.
Can teach simple performance footwork useful for balance and controlled movement.

Rewards they can give

A safe route through the prison’s service passages, if the party helps her get the prisoners out.
Practical intelligence about guard routines, captive morale, and the dungeon’s layout.
A promise of future aid from her mother’s traveling performance network, if Ressa is reunited with her.

Background

Ressa was raised in a traveling Twi’lek performance troupe that moved between settlements on the edge of Hutt Space. Her mother, Sesha, taught her dance as both craft and survival: learn the room, know where every exit is, and never mistake applause for safety. At nineteen, Ressa took work performing at a prosperous entertainment house on Ord Mantell. When a patron attacked a younger dancer, Ressa intervened, broke the man’s wrist, and discovered that the house’s owner had already sold the troupe’s contracts to settle a debt. The performers were separated. Ressa was transported to this prison under a false claim that she had attacked a client without provocation. The formative turn came during the transport: when a frightened fellow captive panicked, Ressa used a performance rhythm tapped through the bars to steady her breathing and keep her from being beaten by guards. Since then, Ressa has treated rhythm as a tool for keeping people alive, not a way to earn approval. She is now held beneath a disused customs station run by a local crime boss’s agents. She quietly organizes food and information among the prisoners, while trying to learn which guard will soon be transferred and whether her mother is still searching for her. A fellow captive, the elderly mechanic Tikk, has become her closest ally; Ressa protects him, though she suspects he has concealed a way to open one of the service doors.

Role in the story

A resourceful prisoner and potential ally whose escape plan can bring the party into conflict with a local crime boss. Ressa offers a human view of the prison’s other captives and challenges the party to decide whether rescue means saving only the people who can keep up.
