Voice

Femi's voice is light and breathy from a small chest, with a soft, rounded onset to his words. He speaks at a child's natural pace, sometimes clipping the ends of longer words when excited. The faint intake before a question is more distinctive than his volume; after long mornings outdoors, his voice carries a little dry rasp from dust and pollen.

He speaks in short, clear phrases shaped by nursery lessons and a child's directness. He calls plants by their common names, describes emotions through weather and texture, and sometimes pauses for a careful breath before answering. His vocabulary is still young, but his observations can be unexpectedly precise.

Speech patterns

Asks concrete, observant questions, often about what someone is carrying or whether they have eaten.
Uses simple words for complicated impressions, such as calling a tense room "poky" or a worried person "full of rain."
Repeats a person's name to make sure they are still paying attention.
When trying to comfort someone, offers a practical kindness such as a flower, a seed, or his father's hand.

How to play them

Approach Femi at his eye level and give him time to decide whether to come closer. Gareth is his anchor, but Femi can engage on his own if offered a simple task, a plant to inspect, or a gentle question. Do not treat his diaper or need for reassurance as a joke or a spectacle; he responds best to matter-of-fact kindness.

Goal

Help his father at the nursery and find out why a familiar patch of woodland feels frightened.

Motivation

To stay close to his father, be trusted with real nursery jobs, and understand the feelings he senses in plants, animals, and people.

Secret · GM only

Appearance

Femi is a small, warm-brown-skinned child with dark curls that spring into a halo after a damp morning in the nursery. His wide brown eyes seem unusually attentive, following hands and faces as if he is trying to understand what someone will do before they do it. He has a slight, sturdy toddler's build and a distinctive way of moving: his boots make a quick, uneven patter, then he abruptly rises a few inches and glides along, legs dangling as though the ground has become optional. Before speaking, he often takes a tiny, deliberate breath through his nose. He leaves the impression of a bright scrap of spring caught in a practical, muddy day.

Clothing

Bright, washable dresses chosen for comfort, usually patterned with flowers or little leaves, paired with scuffed hiking boots and soft socks. He wears a diaper beneath them because the familiar padding helps him feel secure. A sun-faded green cardigan is often tied around his waist for chilly walks.

Body language

He watches hands before faces, leans toward anyone who sounds upset, and grips the hem of his dress when uncertain. When comfortable, he plants his boots wide and bobs lightly in the air. His quick pattering steps often stop with a tiny inhale before he speaks.

Distinguishing features

A cloud of dark, springy curls that catches bits of leaf and fluff.
Warm, watchful brown eyes that linger on small expressions and fidgeting hands.
Bright dresses worn with well-used hiking boots, even on muddy nursery paths.
A hovering gait: quick toddler steps, a pause, then an effortless drift a few inches above the ground.

Personality

13 traits and drives

Femi is affectionate and trusting, yet watchful enough to notice a trembling hand or a sudden change in someone's breath. He loves being included in grown-up work but wants his father within sight when a place feels unfamiliar. When cheerful, he chatters and offers everyone seeds; when overwhelmed, he becomes intent and nearly still, trying to sort the feelings around him. He is brave about small, practical acts of kindness and frightened by separation or hidden distress.

Alignment
Neutral Good

Quirks

Counts watering cans under his breath, then starts over if someone moves one.
Pats the air beneath a floating leaf as if checking whether it has a soft landing.
Offers a seed packet to anyone who looks worried, without explaining why.
Greets familiar trees by tapping their bark twice with one knuckle.
When thinking hard, slowly rotates in midair until he is facing the person he wants to ask.

Habits

Checks Gareth's location before exploring, but will brave a room alone if a distressed plant or animal seems to need him.
When several people speak at once, he rises a few inches and turns slowly, trying to sort each voice from the surrounding thoughts.
After a startling moment, he presses close to his father and asks for a familiar routine rather than an explanation.
Treats small practical tasks as serious work, carefully carrying seed packets or counting watering cans.

He struggles to separate other people's strong emotions from his own feelings.

Combat

AC 12 · HP 11 · 25 feet; custom at-will levitation lets him rise or descend vertically at a walking pace and hover up to 5 feet above a surface, but does not grant horizontal flight.

Femi is not a trained combatant and should not be played as a miniature soldier. If threatened, he stays near Gareth or another trusted adult, uses levitation to get out of immediate reach, and employs Minor Illusion or telepathic warnings to confuse or alert others. He uses his trowel only if cornered, and prefers escape, concealment, and calling for help.

Custom Spring Fey Gift. Femi can levitate at will, drifting up or down at a walking pace and hovering no more than 5 feet above a surface. This does not let him fly horizontally; he can move himself by pushing off objects or being carried.
Psyker spellcasting is represented here with a small, custom, child-safe selection of telepathic powers. The supplied class rules do not specify a level 2 Psi Point maximum or Psi Die, so neither is assumed.
The Telepath subclass features begin at level 3. Femi does not yet have Predictive Reading, Shared Awareness, Memory Palace, or Perfect Foresight.

Spells

Little Thought (cantrip, custom telepathy). Telepathic Cantrip, custom Psyker expression. Femi sends a simple thought to a creature within 30 feet that understands a language. The creature can reply only if it has an independent means of telepathic communication.
Minor Illusion (cantrip, illusion). Creates a small, harmless sensory trick such as a fluttering leaf, a soft footstep, or the smell of fresh earth within range. Femi mostly uses it to distract or reassure.
Kindling Thought (level 1, custom telepathy). Femi touches a willing creature and sends a brief, calming mental impression. The target gains temporary hit points for 1 minute. Custom Psyker power; it is not a canonical D&D spell.
Turn of Attention (level 1, custom telepathy). Femi briefly clouds a creature's attention with a simple mental nudge, creating a momentary distraction rather than controlling its actions. Custom Psyker power; its exact game effect should be adjudicated conservatively by the DM.

Actions

Wooden Trowel. Melee Weapon Attack: to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2 () bludgeoning damage. Femi is more likely to use this to knock a weapon aside than to hurt someone.
Custom Power: Little Thought. Femi sends a brief thought to one creature he can see within 30 feet. The recipient hears the thought in his own voice; this does not allow a reply unless the recipient already has a way to communicate telepathically.

Reactions

Catch the Drift. Custom Fey Levitation: When Femi would fall, he can use his reaction to arrest the fall and hover up to 5 feet above the nearest surface. This is a minor extension of his at-will levitation, not a feature of the Telepath subclass.

Services they sell

Can show visitors the nursery paths and point out plants he has helped care for, with Gareth's permission.
May notice strong emotions or unusual disturbances in the nursery, but his impressions are not reliable forensic evidence.

Rewards they can give

A child's honest account of the nursery and forest school's daily rhythms.
A possible clue to the unexplained fear coming from the nearby woodland.

Background

Femi Williamson is the young son of Gareth "Everbloom" Williamson, proprietor of the Gossamer Garden nursery and forest school. Gareth carries Femi with him between seed beds, lessons, and deliveries, and Femi has grown up learning the names of plants by touch and the moods of adults by watching their faces. His first clear memory of his strange gift came during a spring squall: a gust tore a tray of seedlings from a bench, and Femi rose after it without thinking, hovering just long enough to catch the tray against his chest. Since then, the nursery's regulars have treated his levitation as a charming family oddity, while Gareth quietly worries that strangers will see it as an invitation to claim or study his child. Femi is still young enough to wear diapers, which he prefers for the comfort and security they give him; he is proud of his bright dresses and hiking boots, and just as proud that his dad understands without making a fuss. He wants to help at the nursery, but his burgeoning telepathic impressions sometimes overwhelm him. He has started sensing that a familiar patch of woodland is frightened, though nobody has yet worked out why.

Role in the story

A gentle, vulnerable connection to the nursery and forest school, as well as an early warning of a strange danger in the woods. Femi can prompt the party to investigate without understanding the threat himself.
