Toma Békai
Rogue
Toma Békai
Species
Halfling
Appearance
Toma is a compact halfling with a broad workingman's face, heavy brows, and a mouth that seems permanently prepared to object. His movements are economical and low to the ground, with the quick sideways balance of someone accustomed to narrow ledges above running water. He smells faintly of boiled leather, mint oil, and the mineral tang of old pipes, a scent he pretends not to notice. His hands are unusually clean for a sewer mercenary, but the nails are stained with black sealing wax. The unexpected contradiction is his delicate, almost ceremonial way of handling filthy objects, as if every rusted bolt and broken bottle deserves a respectful introduction.
“His voice is low, dry, and surprisingly gentle, with clipped phrasing shaped by work orders and military commands. He speaks Common with a practical river-city cadence, occasionally stressing the first syllable of a word in a manner borrowed from his mother's Halfling dialect.”

Distinguishing Features
A faint smell of mint oil and wet iron follows him within a few steps.
His left thumb bears a permanent black crescent of sealing wax.
He pauses before speaking, drawing a quiet breath through his nose as though testing the air for leaks.
He carries a tiny brass plumb bob and unconsciously checks whether floors and tables are level.
His laugh is a sudden breathy bark that ends in an embarrassed cough.
Voice
“A low, dry baritone with a soft rasp, as if every sentence has passed through smoke and damp stone. He sounds calm even when threatened, but his breath catches before he says something he truly means.”
Clothing
A brown boiled-leather coat patched with strips of blue sailcloth, a dark red waist sash containing tools and vials, knee-high waterproof boots, fingerless gloves, and a hooded oilskin cape cut short so it cannot catch on pipes. His clothing is plain until viewed closely, when the careful repairs and hidden pockets become obvious.
Body Language
Toma stands with his weight slightly forward, as if ready to step onto a moving boat. He rarely points with a finger, using his chin or a folded knife instead. When lying, he becomes perfectly still. When telling the truth, one heel taps an irregular rhythm against the floor.
