The Opening

For three nights, every awakened person in Mundus Spretus has dreamed of a red heart beating beneath the city. This morning, the dreams became screams, and a dying surveyor staggered into your path carrying a map marked with one message: the god below is waking. Someone must reach the buried Heart before the city’s rulers complete the ritual that will make the awakening permanent.

Set the Scene

The adventure begins in a narrow street of Mundus Spretus during the morning bell. Every awakened person nearby stops at the same moment and turns toward the ground. Their eyes fill with red light. A surveyor named Tomas Rusk crawls from an alley, bleeding from the ears, and presses a folded excavation map into the hands of the nearest character. Before he loses consciousness, he says, "It remembers all of us." The city watch arrives shortly afterward, ordering the characters to surrender the map.

Ilyra Venn

Ilyra Venn approaches the party after they evade or confront the city watch. She recognizes the excavation map and offers access to a hidden archive in exchange for their help. She is guarded, exhausted, and visibly afraid that one of the characters may already be hearing the Dead God’s voice.

The Crimson Meridian pays well for anyone who can bring them a person who dreams of a red door.
  4. 04
Every bell in the city was cast from metal taken out of the deepest excavation.
  5. 05

Stakes

If the ritual succeeds, the Dead God’s consciousness will spread through the ambrosia in every awakened person, transforming them into parts of a single divine mind. If the ambrosia is destroyed recklessly, thousands may lose their abilities or die. The party must choose between safety, freedom, and the preservation of individual identity.

Ticking Clock·The Crimson Meridian will complete the mass awakening ritual after the next seven bell strikes. Each major delay, failed negotiation, or loud battle advances the ritual by one bell. The party can gain time by sabotaging ambrosia conduits, persuading awakened wardens to open hidden routes, or stealing the Meridian’s ritual vessel.

Background Lore

Long before the present age, the entity now called the Dead God fell from the heavens and buried itself beneath the oldest foundations of Mundus Spretus. Its corpse did not decay. Instead, its divine blood pooled in caverns beneath the city, becoming a luminous substance known as ambrosia. The first awakened were created through controlled exposure to this blood, granting them extraordinary perception, memory, and will. For generations, the city’s hidden powers have harvested the ambrosia while concealing its source. Now the Dead God is beginning to stir, and every awakened person in the city may be connected to its returning consciousness.

What the World Knows

The party is drawn into a crisis beneath Mundus Spretus after awakened citizens begin sharing violent visions of a buried heart. A secretive faction is harvesting a mysterious substance beneath the city, and its leader plans to complete a ritual that could transform every awakened person. The characters must descend into the hidden tunnels, uncover the truth, and decide whether the buried power should be destroyed, freed, or contained.
