The Bloom Beneath Saint Veyra
The Bloom Beneath Saint Veyra
“A miracle blooms beneath a ruined abbey, and no one should be allowed to own it.”
— Hook · Occult investigation and containment
“Sister Maelin Voss arrives at your camp carrying a sealed iron reliquary and a look of absolute dread. A flower called the Moonmother Orchid has bloomed beneath the ruined Abbey of Saint Veyra, and a fertility cult is already marching to claim it. She asks you to reach the abbey first, secure the flower without exposing anyone to its magic, and decide whether it must be contained or destroyed.”
— Hook · Occult investigation and containment
The characters arrive at the abbey during a warm night despite the season. Pale green light pulses through cracks in the earth, birds circle without landing, and villagers gathered at the road argue over whether the phenomenon is a miracle. Sister Maelin gives the party an iron reliquary, a packet of charcoal masks, and one warning: the flower must never be touched with bare skin.
Sister Maelin Voss
Sister Maelin approaches the characters at their camp or in the village of Hollowmere. She is exhausted, formal, and visibly afraid of the reliquary she carries.

If the cult succeeds, the orchid's magic will be transported through the valley and used to create a magically controlled population. If the characters fail to contain the flower, its seedpods may spread the effect beyond the abbey, creating a crisis involving consent, bodily autonomy, frightened villagers, and competing factions.
Background Lore
Once every century, the Moonmother Orchid blooms in the sealed conservatory beneath Saint Veyra's abandoned abbey. Its pollen carries a powerful creation magic that can begin a pregnancy without sexual contact, but the effect is involuntary and difficult to reverse. The flower was once protected by healers who believed new life should never be created without consent. The Verdant Cradle, a fertility cult led by a charismatic prophet, now seeks the orchid to create a generation they believe is destined to rule the valley.
The characters are hired to stop the Verdant Cradle from claiming a rare magical flower beneath an abandoned abbey. The flower has a dangerous creation magic that can affect people without their consent, so the characters must secure it without direct exposure. The cult believes the flower is a divine blessing and will use captives, misinformation, and ritual magic to protect it.
