The Opening

The circular table is already lit when you enter the War Room. Mara Vey places three marked folders in front of you and says, “One decision, three minutes, no second attempt.” Around the room, House Vanguard watches to see whether you choose a side, expose the trap, or prove you have no side at all.

Set the Scene

The War Room has no furniture except the circular tactical table at its center. Crimson light enters through narrow windows and falls across dark stone walls. Maps cover every available surface. Some are finished with clean lines and fixed markers. Others stop halfway across a district, as if someone chose not to complete them. Mara Vey stands beside the table with three folders arranged in a straight line. Silas Rook sits against the wall beneath an unfinished map and says nothing.

Mara Vey

Mara Vey does not welcome the newcomer. She points to the tactical table and gives the instructions without offering a seat. If the newcomer asks whether this is a test, she answers, “Everything in this room is a test after someone asks that question.”

Stakes

The newcomer is not risking life or wealth. They are deciding whether House Vanguard will treat them as someone who can be trusted with information, responsibility, and future choices. A vague answer costs access. A clear answer creates obligations.

Ticking Clock·The newcomer has three minutes to choose a priority, then one additional minute to name the first action and its cost.

Background Lore

House Vanguard governs through decisions made in its War Room. Newcomers are not welcomed with ceremony. They are given a live problem, a limited set of facts, and one chance to show how they think when every answer creates a consequence.

What the World Knows

House Vanguard is conducting a public initiation for a newcomer. The newcomer must decide which of three developing situations deserves immediate attention: a transit shutdown affecting civilians, a leak inside a rival faction, or a missing courier carrying sensitive information. The facts are incomplete by design. Vanguard wants to see whether the newcomer can identify priorities, accept consequences, and speak with enough clarity for others to act.
