The Skybridge of Seven Bells: Valor's Call Edition
The Skybridge of Seven Bells: Valor's Call Edition
Read aloud
Seven bells hold the Skybridge between Valdren and Aramoor, but now the seventh hangs silent and the span shudders beneath stranded travelers. Bellkeeper Tamsin Reed asks Valor's Call to find the cause, rescue everyone on the bridge, and make the crossing safe before it fails.
Run the session
Cheat sheet
Objectives
- 1Rescue the travelers before the bridge becomes unsafe.
- 2Investigate the sabotage and determine whether Nix was framed.
- 3Secure the clapper and overcome the bridge's defenses.
- 4Restore the seventh bell or choose a viable alternative ending.
The clock
The span grows less stable as the seventh bell remains silent. Keep urgency visible through small shifts and strained bell tones rather than tracking an additional hidden countdown. The five scenes total 60 minutes; if a scene runs long, make a failure-forward cut to the next meaningful decision.

The hook
Set the scene
Read aloud: "The seventh bell has gone silent. Far below, cloud and river churn beneath the Skybridge, while its long span trembles under the weight of stranded travelers. Tamsin Reed hurries toward you, pointing to the eastern control station: 'Please, Valor's Call. Get them clear, find out what happened, and bring the bell back if you can.'" Establish where the travelers are and ask the players what their heroes do first. Media trigger: if using a CharGen-generated opening cinematic, play it now, limited to 30 seconds and included in this scene's 13 minutes. Text-only alternative: describe the swaying bridge, muffled six-bell resonance, and travelers calling for help. The GM guides any manual media handoff; there is no automatic connection or synchronization.
How Tamsin Reed asks
Tamsin Reed finds Valor's Call at the bridge approach, points out the stranded travelers, and asks the heroes to act quickly.
She does not demand a particular method: rescue, investigation, and restoration can proceed in parallel.

explorationThe table is here
1. 1. The Silent Bell
The Valdren approach and the swaying central span of the Skybridge, with stranded travelers visible between the heroes and the eastern control station.
Show the emergency, identify the travelers' immediate danger, and let the heroes divide tasks or coordinate. Tamsin asks for rescue and investigation, not a specific plan. A careful rescue, a check to assess the safest route, or clear coordination can get travelers off the most dangerous section. On a failed attempt, they still reach a safer brace or landing, but the bridge loses time and the next scene begins under pressure. Clue: Tamsin can point out that the seventh bell is silent and that maintenance access is controlled. Optional complication: a traveler drops a pack or the bridge tilts.
NextOnce the travelers are safer, Tamsin directs the heroes to Nix and the maintenance records. If the players prioritize investigating, have Tamsin or another willing helper continue the evacuation offscreen.

2. 2. The Accused Inventor
The safe approach-side maintenance alcove, where Nix waits with Tamsin and the official maintenance records.
Nix denies causing the silence and asks the heroes to inspect the evidence rather than trust his word. Give the heroes the three clues through examination, conversation, or deduction: an official maintenance seal shows authorized access; the altered toll ledger suggests a deliberate cover story; brass dust and bootprints lead east. Tamsin confirms the seal is not Nix's. A check, if appropriate in the campaign's D&D Lite rules, can interpret a clue quickly; failure gives the clue with a cost such as lost time, a witness's reluctance, or an added complication, never a dead end. The GM may use a short NPC voiceover here. Text-only alternative: read Nix's dialogue and describe the evidence.
NextThe physical trail and records point to the eastern control station. If the heroes believe Nix, he can explain that the bell mechanism uses three alignment symbols, but cannot safely cross the defended span alone.

3. 3. Battle on the Bridge
The eastern half of the Skybridge, using the specified 16-column by 12-row tactical battlemap with 5-foot squares.
Run one encounter using the supplied 16-by-12 map and D&D Lite statistics. The heroes can fight, negotiate, sneak past, or disable the Guardian. Bridge Enforcers challenge anyone approaching the station and try to drive intruders away rather than pursue a retreating party. The Guardian protects the clapper case and attacks the nearest intruder until its command rune is suppressed or it is disabled. An adjacent hero can spend an action attempting a Arcana or Thieves' Tools check against the command rune. First success suppresses its next activation; second success permanently deactivates it. These successes need not be consecutive. Reaching the station reveals the locked brass case and the altered ledger's significance. Keep the battle to 18 minutes maximum, including negotiation or stealth. Media trigger: optional brief sound effect or ambient music on the Guardian's activation. Text-only alternative: describe the rune flaring and the Enforcers' boots striking the bridge.
Battle on the BridgeNextWith the station secured, the heroes can open the case by suitable means, negotiate for access, or use the evidence to make Voss yield. The clapper is recoverable even if the encounter ended through retreat or stealth.

4. 4. The Seventh Bell
The seventh bell and eastern control station, with the clapper case open and travelers waiting at a safe point.
At the silent bell, present the inscription: "First the anchor, then the path, and finally the welcome." The symbols must be aligned in the order Anchor, Path, Welcome. Restoration takes two successes out of three attempts, with correctly setting the full symbol sequence counting as one success. The other attempt or attempts can be a suitable Arcana, Religion, Investigation, or tools approach under the campaign's D&D Lite rules. On a failed attempt, trigger a concrete consequence such as a brief bridge lurch, a delay, or a bell's discordant ring; do not permanently block restoration. Voss arrives or is confronted here if he has not already been dealt with. He can deny, bargain, or concede when shown evidence. The heroes decide whether to expose him, accept oversight, or focus solely on saving the crossing. Optional media trigger: play a brief bell sound or branching ending voiceover after the players choose. Text-only alternative: describe the bell's resonance and read the selected ending aloud.
NextThe heroes' choices determine whether the crossing is fully restored, temporarily stabilized, or abandoned after a safe evacuation. Cut directly to the consequences.

5. 5. The Crossing
The safest approach to the Skybridge, where the rescued travelers gather to watch the crossing's fate.
Close on the travelers' crossing and the result of the heroes' decisions. For heroic victory, the seventh bell joins the other six and the bridge steadies; evidence exposes Voss. For compromise, the bell is restored and Voss remains under oversight. For partial success, travelers escape but the bridge is lost. For temporary restoration, Nix's substitute clapper steadies the crossing until a permanent repair. Give each hero a brief moment to describe their reaction. End with Tamsin's thanks and one relevant future hook. If media is used, keep the branching ending cinematic to 30 seconds maximum and within this five-minute scene. Text-only alternative: summarize the changed crossing, people's response, and the open hook.
NextEnd the one-shot, or follow one of the resolution hooks into the next campaign session.
Behind it
What people believe
The Skybridge connects Valdren and Aramoor and is sustained by seven enchanted bronze bells.
The seventh bell has fallen silent, leaving travelers stranded. Bellkeeper Tamsin Reed seeks the help of Valor's Call. Goblin inventor Nix Brassfinger has been accused, but questions remain about what happened at the bridge's eastern control station. The heroes must rescue the travelers, investigate, and decide how to make the crossing safe.
Background
The Skybridge is an enchanted crossing between Valdren and Aramoor, held aloft by seven bronze bells.
Their sequence steadies the span and guides travelers safely across. The heroes of Valor's Call are Strongheart, a human paladin; Molliver, a human rogue; Elkhorn, a dwarf fighter; Ringlerun, a human wizard; and Mercion, a human cleric. Two human players control the five level-2 heroes, with each player making decisions for their own characters. Use the campaign's established D&D Lite rules and existing character records. Do not create duplicate records or assume unprovided character abilities.
The stakes
If the heroes lose too much time, travelers may be injured and the bridge may become unusable.
If they accept the accusation without investigation, Nix may be punished while the real culprit keeps authority. If they expose Voss without a workable restoration plan, justice may come at the cost of the crossing.
Encounters
1Battle on the Bridge
Combat, with negotiation, stealth, or disabling the Guardian as valid alternatives
Use one tactical map, 16 columns by 12 rows, with 5-foot squares. Place the eastern control station and command rune at one short end, the silent bell toward the other, and a narrow central walking lane with railings and a few maintenance braces as cover. Mark one unstable span as difficult or hazardous terrain without making a fall inevitable. Stranded travelers are beyond the immediate fight area and do not occupy combat turns.
Foes
Bridge Enforcer (AC 12, HP 9, attack +3, fixed damage 3)
Bridge Enforcer (AC 12, HP 9, attack +3, fixed damage 3)
Arcane Guardian (AC 14, HP 22, attack +4, fixed damage 4)
ComplicationThe bridge sways and the Guardian's command rune pulses. At the end of each combat round, or at a dramatic beat in a noncombat approach, the GM may roll or choose one specific event from the d6 complications table. Do not let a complication prevent rescue or permanently lock the clapper away.
ScalingUse the listed values as the campaign-provided D&D Lite statistics; do not add foes. For a faster or especially difficult fight, an Enforcer can withdraw once reduced to 3 HP or less. For a more challenging fight, have the Guardian prioritize the heroes nearest its rune rather than increasing damage or adding enemies. If combat threatens the 18-minute scene limit, let surrender, negotiation, successful stealth, or the two rune successes end the encounter.

How it ends
Rewards
Items
Recovered seventh-bell clapper, a quest item returned to the bridge mechanism rather than retained as ordinary treasure.
If the bridge needs a temporary fix, Nix's substitute clapper, a custom campaign device that works only to stabilize this crossing until a permanent repair.
On a win
Resolve the adventure according to the heroes' choices.
Heroic victory: recover the clapper, restore the bell, rescue the travelers, and expose Voss with the evidence. Compromise: restore the crossing, but allow Voss limited authority under public oversight. Partial success: evacuate the travelers safely, but lose the bridge until it can be repaired. Temporary restoration: Nix builds a substitute clapper, saving the crossing for now while a permanent replacement is sought. Do not force a single outcome; the party may negotiate another credible arrangement.
What it leaves open
If it fails
- The heroes cannot restore the bell or recover the clapper before the bridge becomes unsafe.
- The travelers are evacuated by a dangerous but survivable route. The crossing is lost until repairs can be made, and the settlement's trade and travel are disrupted.
- The party fails to persuade witnesses or officials that Nix is innocent.
- Nix is released from immediate danger but remains publicly suspected. Tamsin can preserve the evidence, leaving a later chance to clear his name.
- The party restores the bridge but lacks enough evidence or leverage to expose Voss decisively.
- Voss retains limited authority under oversight, and the bridge is restored with a public inquiry still pending.
- The original clapper cannot be recovered or the bell mechanism cannot be fully aligned, but Nix has time to build a temporary substitute.
- The crossing is temporarily safe, but the substitute clapper may fail later. Tamsin and Nix ask the heroes to help secure a permanent repair.
Complications (d6)
- 1A section of bridge tilts sharply. Each hero on the exposed span must describe how they keep their footing or make a suitable D&D Lite check; failure costs them their next movement or equivalent, but does not send them off the bridge.
- 2A stranded traveler's dropped pack slides toward the edge. Rescuing it costs an action or equivalent; leaving it is safe, but the traveler loses their medicine or supplies.
- 3A bell gives a discordant half-ring. The next check made to study the mechanism is at a situational disadvantage or equivalent, unless a hero first steadies the bell frame.
- 4A gust scatters loose evidence. A hero must secure the maintenance seal or ledger now, or spend a later action gathering it before it can be used to confront Voss.
- 5An Enforcer calls out that the heroes are endangering the crossing. A clear rebuttal, evidence, or a successful social approach can make it hesitate for one round; otherwise it follows its normal behavior.
- 6The Guardian's rune flares, illuminating the clapper's hiding place. Reveal its location immediately, but the Guardian activates at once if it has not already acted.
