Let Aja and Donigi Choose
Let Aja and Donigi Choose
Read Aloud
Aja dances beneath the Dancing Fire in the shape he has always wished to be: bright, brave, and small enough for every admiring hand to lift him toward the music. Donigi stands beside the Story Fire with a cup untouched in one hand, smiling as if she has finally found a place where nobody asks what she remembers. Around them, the revelers cheer, embrace, and close ranks whenever anyone looks toward the dark path home.
The Scene
NEUTRALsocial rescue and consent under enchantmentBase DC 13Stakes Aja may lose sight of home and Yava beneath the admiration he has always wanted. Donigi may mistake a manufactured refuge for the answer to her dreams. If the characters attack first, the Revelry may become a frightened crowd defending two people it truly loves.
30 to 60 minutes
The corrupted dryad wants Aja, Donigi, and every other guest to remain forever, because each departure feels to her like abandonment and proof that her welcome was not enough.
Aja wants to be useful and remembered as brave. Donigi wants to understand her dreams and protect living things. The revelers want to be treated as friends, not enemies.
- Ask Aja what his father, Yava, would want him to choose.
- Invite Donigi to compare the Revelry with the safe parts of her dreams and the dangerous parts.
- Offer Aja a meaningful task outside the party, such as helping bring Yava home or protecting Shantiniketan.
- Ask the revelers whether friendship permits a friend to say no.
- Use a true performance, shared toast, dance, story, or formal farewell rather than a command.
- Let Aja or Donigi speak privately with one trusted character away from the crowd.
- Name the charm as a loss of choice without insulting the guests who care about them.
- Talk to Aja: praise his courage, then ask what he intends to do after the applause ends.
- Talk to Donigi: ask what the forest outside feels like, then invite her to trust the part of herself that keeps a private dream journal.
- Join the revel: earn the crowd's attention through Performance, Persuasion, Insight, or a sincere act of hospitality.
- Test the glamour: ask Aja or Donigi to choose between two kind options that lead away from the fires.
- Expose the pattern: compare contradictory guest memories, altered paths, repeated drinks, and the dryad's language of possession.
- Negotiate with the corrupted dryad: promise a return, a story, a guest exchange, or a future celebration, but never promise that the characters will surrender another person's choice.
- Break the social spell: use an appropriate spell, class feature, or roleplayed appeal; any successful method must be followed by a clear question about whether Aja or Donigi now chooses to stay.
- Aja taps his little travel drum against his knee whenever someone questions his choice. He insists that staying is the first decision he has made that feels entirely his.
- Donigi rubs the rim of the old singing bowl when anxious. She becomes quiet when asked about the familiar-faced woman in her dreams, then asks whether the characters have ever left someone behind.
- Sincere revelers offer food, dance partners, blankets, songs, and compliments. If threatened, they form a protective crowd and plead for the characters to stop hurting their friends.
- The corrupted dryad touches nearby leaves as if calming a frightened animal. She first offers affection and practical comforts, then accuses departing characters of making the Revelry ugly.
