Ebo
Ebo
At the table
Voice
Ebo speaks from the chest when he is calling across rooftops, giving his voice a rough, dry edge. Up close it is fast and slightly breathless, with a small catch on words beginning with s from a gap between his front teeth. When he is telling a child what to do, he slows down and makes each instruction plain.
His words come out quick and clipped, shaped by years of calling warnings across rooftops and speaking around a mouth full of stolen bread. He favors practical questions, gives directions with little gestures, and uses jokes as a shield when he feels cornered.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Treat Ebo as capable without pretending he is an adult. Be honest about risks and keep promises. He responds to practical help, shared food, and respect for his choices, but shuts down if threatened with abandonment or treated as a mascot.
Goal
Pay off the debt, recover the storeroom key, and find a safe, permanent place for the children who rely on him.
Motivation
Ebo wants to prove that being small and alone does not mean being helpless. Beneath his swagger, he wants a place where nobody can make him leave.
Appearance
Ebo is a small half-orc boy with olive-green skin, a soft scatter of pale freckles across his nose, and two blunt lower tusks that show whenever he grins. His dark hair sticks up in uneven bristles, as if he cut it himself with a kitchen knife. He moves with a springy, sideways gait, always landing on the balls of his feet. While waiting, he balances his weight on one heel and repeatedly checks the little wooden bird tucked into his belt. He looks scrappy and alert, but the bird is painted with meticulous blue flowers, an unexpectedly careful bit of handiwork for a street thief.
Clothing
A patched brown tunic, a too-large green vest cinched with cord, cropped trousers, and soft shoes wrapped in strips of old sailcloth. A loop of blue thread is stitched inside his cuff as a private keepsake.
Body language
He keeps his shoulders slightly forward and his chin lifted in defiance. His feet rarely point toward the person he is speaking to, always angled toward the nearest exit. One hand drifts to the wooden bird at his belt when he is uneasy; when proud, he stands very straight and plants both hands on his hips.

Background
Ebo remembers no parents and has never been sure whether he was abandoned, lost, or simply left behind during the flood that swallowed his first neighborhood. He grew up in the drained foundations of the old Silt Quarter, sleeping in a kiln shed and learning which shopkeepers left their shutters loose. For years, he worked as a lookout for Tarek, an aging roof-mender who fed him and taught him to judge a building by its creaks. Ebo's turning point came when a fire trapped three children in a tenement. He slipped through a smoke vent to bring them out, but the delay let Tarek's workshop burn. Tarek survived, though his hands were badly hurt, and Ebo has carried the carved wooden bird he rescued from the ashes ever since. Now he steals food and small tools, but refuses to rob anyone who has less than he does. His current problem is a debt of twelve silver pieces owed to a hard-nosed market porter after Ebo took a key he thought would open a safe, only to discover it belonged to a storeroom full of winter blankets.
Role in the story
A resourceful child ally whose stolen key can expose a local injustice. His courage may help the party, but his recklessness and need for belonging can put him in danger.
