Naira
Naira
At the table
Voice
A clear, slightly dry voice shaped by long hours calling prices over market noise and by the breath control of dance training. Her consonants land cleanly, useful for being heard without shouting. When anxious, a faint catch interrupts the first breath, then she resumes with deliberate, practical clarity.
She speaks Basic with the clipped precision of someone accustomed to selling to impatient buyers, softened by the rounded cadence of Ryl. Her words are economical and her pauses deliberate. When rattled, her breath catches once before she forces it into an even rhythm; her sentences do not become softer, but more exact.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Begin with an ordinary sales exchange and let visitors reveal what they notice. Offer useful information or a small kindness before asking for help. She tests trust with low-risk requests, never assumes that a rescuer is safe, and will not trade another captive's identity for her own freedom.
Goal
Get the shackle off, secure a safe passage off-world for herself and the people she has promised to protect, and preserve the escape network without exposing it.
Motivation
To reclaim choice over her own life without making other captives pay the cost.
Appearance
Naira sits on a stool behind a crowded jewelry stall, legs stretched along its counter with her bare soles turned toward the customer. The pose looks languid until you notice that her weight is already placed for a quick spring. Her sapphire-blue skin has the smooth, cool sheen of polished stone, with fine creases at her knuckles and ankles from years of work. Her amber eyes, copper-flecked in lantern light, rarely settle on a face: they track hands, exits, and reflections in the glass beads. Her deep indigo lekku, rooted in black-violet, drape over her shoulders; tiny brass rings on one catch the light when she turns. Subtle piercings mark one brow and the edge of an ear. The unexpected detail is a small, carefully tended patch of pale green moss growing in a cracked ceramic cup beneath the stall, which she shields from customers and sun alike. She leaves the impression of someone resting only because she has already measured the room.
Clothing
Translucent layered sapphire performance fabric over a thin dancer's wrap and loincloth, secured with brass clasps. She wears an ornate carved collar, armbands, stacked bangles, thigh ornaments, and calf bands. A heavy shackle circles her left ankle; its short chain disappears behind the stall.
Body language
Her shoulders remain narrow and loose while her calves hold a dancer's poised tension. She rests her feet wherever she can see the approach to the stall, and the shackle's chain is tucked out of customers' reach. She watches hands and doorways before faces. When rattled, she presses one thumb against a brass ring on her lekku and takes one controlled breath through her nose.

Distinguishing features
Personality
14 traits and drivesNaira is observant and self-contained, yet not emotionally numb. In a crowd she performs bored indifference to discourage questions; with a frightened person she becomes briskly protective. She enjoys beauty and bargaining, but resents being treated as decoration. When she feels safe, dry humor and stubborn curiosity emerge. When threatened, she becomes practical rather than submissive, though old habits can make her conceal how much she needs help.
- Alignment
- Pragmatic and compassionate, though her patience for people who excuse cruelty is short.

Combat
HP 12 · Custom profile: moves at an ordinary walking pace; a short sprint or dancer's leap is possible when unrestrained.Avoids a fair fight. She uses the stall, hanging cloth, and crowds to break line of sight, then escapes or draws help. If cornered, she uses a concealed holdout blaster or a dancer's low sweep to create a gap. She will not attack someone who is merely bargaining or posturing.

Background
Naira was born on Ryloth and sold as a child after a slaver's raid scattered the household that had raised her. Her owner trained her to dance at private auctions, then put her to work selling jewelry because she could read a buyer's appetite before they spoke. The turning point came during a shipment transfer: a frightened Twi'lek child hid beneath her stall, and Naira chose to misdirect the guards rather than expose them. The child escaped; Naira was punished and fitted with the heavy ankle shackle she still wears. She has since learned the stall's inventory, its owner's routines, and which customers are secretly looking for people rather than ornaments. She is quietly saving to buy her freedom and to help the escaped child, now grown, find a safe route off-world. Her owner, Daro, suspects she skims small sums but has not proved it. A traveling slicer, Piko, trades her forged shipping slips for rare beads. Naira's present problem is that a buyer has recognized the shackle's maker's mark and is asking questions that could expose both her escape network and the people it protects.
Role in the story
A captive vendor who can become an ally, informant, or catalyst for a rescue plot. She has her own escape plan and will not simply wait for the characters to solve her life for her.
“Her owner trained her to dance at private auctions, then put her to work selling jewelry because she could read a buyer's appetite before they spoke.”
- Faction
- Unwillingly bound to Daro's private stall operation. Quietly connected to an informal escape network among market workers; this network is a custom setting detail, not a named canonical organization.
