At the table

“a turn with no music.”
From how they speak

Voice

Her voice has the clear, carrying edge of someone used to making herself heard over port machinery and market crowds. A slight dry rasp catches on words spoken through smoke or after long hours calling prices. When she is comfortable, her timing turns playful and precise; when watched, she clips every phrase into harmless-sounding sales talk.

Her Basic is shaped by years of selling in a noisy port market: crisp consonants, quick turns of phrase, and a practiced rhythm that can carry over crowd noise without shouting. She speaks Ryl more fluidly and lets its sounds run together when relaxed. During danger, her sentences become short and concrete, like instructions called across a busy stall.

Speech patterns

Uses the language of jewelry and bargaining to test what a visitor values: 'That price tells me what you fear losing.'
Speaks in clipped, practical phrases when watched by an overseer, then asks careful questions once alone.
Describes escape routes as dance steps and calls a plan 'a turn with no music.'
Rarely asks directly for help; instead she offers a precise task and watches whether the listener keeps their word.

How to play them

Offer a fair price for a small repair or ask a specific, observant question about the market. She responds to demonstrated patience and kept promises, not grand declarations. Make a quiet offer of practical help and let her choose the risk. Pressing her about the shackle in public causes her to shut down or play the compliant vendor.

Goal

Obtain the restraint key before the coming inspection, free herself, and create a safe route out for the other workers bound to the market.

Motivation

Turn survival into a deliberate choice: protect people who have little power, recover contact with her family, and prove to herself that she can leave without becoming the kind of person who abandons others.

Appearance

Seshathi rests on a low stool behind a crowded jewelry stall, legs stretched along its hidden inner ledge and bare soles angled toward the customer. Her pose looks languid until one notices that her weight is poised over the balls of her feet, ready to spring. Sapphire-blue skin has a soft, satin sheen under the amber lanterns, darkening to cool indigo in shadow. Her calm face is watchful, with amber eyes flecked copper that track hands and exits before they settle on a visitor. Deep indigo lekku, nearly black at the roots, coil over one shoulder; tiny brass rings on the left one click faintly when she turns. Fine brass piercings trace one ear ridge. A translucent layered sapphire performance wrap and loincloth are secured with ornate clasps, armbands, carved collar, stacked bangles, thigh ornaments, and snug calf bands. The theatrical drape is deliberately elegant, but practical seams and concealed pockets betray a vendor's eye. A heavy shackle circles her left ankle, its short chain vanishing behind the stall. The unexpected detail: she keeps a tiny, painstakingly folded paper origami bird tucked into her collar, a fragile handmade thing among all that metal and glass.

Clothing

Layered translucent sapphire performance fabrics form a wrap and loincloth, secured with brass clasps and worn over opaque practical underlayers. She wears a carved collar, ornate armbands, stacked bangles, thigh ornaments, and calf bands. The garments are beautiful, carefully maintained, and arranged to hide small tools. A heavy restraint shackle encircles her left ankle.

Body language

She waits with her legs extended and shoulders apparently slack, but her feet stay angled for leverage and her torso leans forward by a fraction. Her eyes make quick, precise trips from hands to exits to faces. When she is thinking, one thumb rubs the edge of a brass bangle as if testing for a seam.

Distinguishing features

Tiny brass rings on one indigo lekku make a soft click when she turns her head.
A heavy restraint shackle circles her left ankle, with its short chain hidden behind the stall.
Her amber eyes flecked with copper track hands and exits before faces.
A tiny folded paper bird is tucked into her carved collar, unexpectedly delicate among the jewelry and restraints.

Personality

14 traits and drives

Seshathi is patient with frightened people but impatient with anyone who treats patience as obedience. She enjoys the precision and beauty of jewelry work, yet dislikes being admired as if she were part of the display. In private she can be wry and unexpectedly playful; under surveillance she becomes deliberately dull, letting others mistake caution for passivity. She wants to trust people and continually tests whether they deserve it.

Alignment
Not applicable as a Star Wars rules statistic; morally protective, pragmatic, and wary of anyone who calls ownership benevolence.

Quirks

Folds scraps of paper into birds, then tucks them into places no customer would think to search.
Tests unfamiliar bangles with a tiny tap against her front teeth, listening for a flaw.
Names dance steps after market obstacles, such as 'crate turn' and 'lantern slip.'
When a customer lies about a jewel's origin, she rotates it exactly once before answering.
Quietly counts the number of breaths between an enforcer's footsteps.

Habits

Counts exits and watches hands before acknowledging a new arrival.
When a customer bargains honestly, she becomes animated and exacting, showing the workmanship with genuine pride.
When an enforcer enters, she performs boredom convincingly while shifting her weight to keep the chain from snagging.
If someone is threatened nearby, her attention snaps to them even when doing so risks exposing her plans.

Traits · 4

Protective of vulnerable bystanders, sometimes to the point of reckless self-sacrifice.
Proud of her craft and quietly delighted when someone notices a fine repair.
Suspicious of generous promises but responsive to small, verifiable acts.
Can turn humor sharp when someone confuses ownership with authority.

Flaws · 3

She takes responsibility for people who have not asked her to, even when it endangers her plans.
Her distrust makes it difficult for allies to know when she genuinely needs help.
She can become fixated on a clean escape plan and hesitate when an imperfect chance is the only chance.

Fears · 3

Being forced to leave other enslaved people behind during her escape.
That her family accepted her disappearance as a choice.
That a buyer will separate her from the market before she can find the shackle key.

Wants and needs · 4

The restraint key or a reliable way to open the shackle.
Proof that her mother and cousin survived.
A trustworthy accomplice who will follow her lead rather than decide her fate for her.
A chance to practice dance for its own sake, not as an act demanded by someone else.

Combat

HP 10 · Custom house rule: move one short range band per turn; a successful Agility plus Acrobatics roll can cross a cluttered stall without losing movement.

Avoids a fair fight. She uses market clutter, footwork, and the stall's narrow layout to create an opening, then escapes or protects a bystander. She will fire only if trapped or if someone is in immediate danger. All combat mechanics here use the explicitly custom six-sided-dice house rule described above.

Custom cinematic Star Wars profile. roll a pool of six-sided dice equal to the listed characteristic; each 5 or 6 is a success. Add one die for a relevant listed skill. This is a table-ready house rule, not a claim about a particular official Star Wars edition.
The requested level 10 is retained as a campaign label only. Star Wars rules vary by edition and do not share a universal level system.

Actions

Holdout Blaster. Custom house rule: roll Agility plus Blaster skill. Each success deals 1 damage; a target in substantial cover cancels one success. Her concealed holdout blaster deals 2 additional damage on a hit.
Heel-and-Elbow Escape. Custom house rule: roll Agility plus Brawl skill. On one or more successes, deal 1 damage and move the target or herself a short distance. She uses this to break a grip or create an escape route, not to prolong a fight.
Read the Stall. Custom house rule: roll Cunning plus Streetwise skill. On a success, identify a nearby exit, useful bystander, or exploitable piece of market clutter. This action deals no damage.

Reactions

Slip the Hold. Custom house rule: when grabbed or cornered, roll Agility plus Brawl. On a success, break contact and shift to nearby cover or an open route. The restraint chain can limit this movement if it is taut.
Make Them Look. Custom house rule: when someone threatens a nearby bystander, she can use her reaction to draw attention with a thrown ornament or a sharp shout. The attacker must choose whether to pursue her distraction or continue their original action.

Background

Seshathi was born in a crowded port district where her family repaired costume jewelry for market performers. Her mother, Nali, taught her to recognize a false gem by the way it caught lanternlight; her older cousin, Penda, taught her how to dance without wasting a step. When Seshathi was a teenager, a debt collector took her family's workshop as payment for a loan her mother had never agreed to. Seshathi was sold into servitude and eventually assigned to sell jewelry at a bazaar stall, where her training made her useful and her stillness made customers underestimate her. Years ago, a fire swept through the market. Her owner ordered her to save a locked case of valuable pieces while smoke filled the arcade. Instead, she broke the stall's display and used the shards and fallen awning to make a path for trapped children. She was punished, but the children lived. That day ended her belief that quiet compliance could keep everyone safe. She now watches for a chance to get the shackle open and free herself without leaving other bound workers behind. She quietly trades repairs and market intelligence with Djo, a stall porter who risks his own ration chits to help; she distrusts her owner, Bhek, who is both cruelly possessive and afraid the market's creditors will seize him next. Her current problem is a scheduled inspection: the shackle's control key is due to be handed to a new buyer before the next market day.

Role in the story

A seemingly idle vendor whose careful attention makes her an excellent source of market knowledge. She can become an ally, a rescue objective, or the person whose plan forces the party to decide whether freedom means saving only one life or risking a larger escape.

“When Seshathi was a teenager, a debt collector took her family's workshop as payment for a loan her mother had never agreed to.”
From their background
Faction
Compelled to work for Bhek's market stall; no voluntary faction affiliation. She has quiet ties to port laborers and former market performers.

Known connections

Nali, her mother, once ran the family's repair bench and may still be alive somewhere in the port district. Seshathi has heard no reliable word.
Penda, her older cousin and former dance partner, disappeared during the market fire. Seshathi does not know whether Penda escaped.
Djo, a porter who moves crates for the market, slips her scraps of news and helps conceal small tools.
Bhek, the stall's owner, controls her restraint and claims he bought her debt. His fear of creditors sometimes makes him careless, but he is not safe to trust.
The children she rescued from the fire are now young adults; one sometimes visits the stall without revealing how they know her.
