Fekta Akin
Fekta Akin
At the table
Voice
Fekta's voice has a forward, carrying edge, shaped by shouting instructions across noisy road crews. It catches slightly on dry mornings, then warms as she gets moving. She speaks in quick phrases that land like tools set on a bench, with an occasional breathless laugh when she realizes she has promised more than she can do.
Her words tumble forward in quick, practical bursts, with clipped consonants from years of calling over wind and hammering. She uses her whole breath to make herself heard across a worksite, then catches herself and keeps talking at the same volume indoors. When she is unsure, she starts listing materials and steps as though naming them will make the plan hold together.

How to play them
Meet her energy without letting her rush the conversation. Give her a concrete task, a clear boundary, or a problem she can help solve. She responds badly to being treated as reckless decoration, but listens when someone explains who could be hurt and how.
Goal
Find a reliable clue to Bako's whereabouts and make good on her promise to repair Odo's waterwheel before the spring flood.
Motivation
Fekta wants to prove that unpredictable magic can still be useful, and that being dependable does not require giving up movement, curiosity, or the right to choose her own road.
Appearance
Fekta moves as if the next idea has already started and she is trying to catch up with it. Her boots scuff, pivot, and launch her into motion; when she has to stand still, her shoulders keep time with an inaudible beat. Her most noticeable possession is a brass handbell tied to her belt with fraying blue cord. Its handle has been worn almost smooth on one side from her thumb worrying it. She looks at doorways, windows, and the empty air above people's shoulders before she looks at faces, as if mapping every possible exit and spark-point in a room. The bell is not a mage's focus, and she insists it is only for calling people to supper.
Clothing
A short, soot-smudged coat with roomy sleeves, a patched red-brown vest, sturdy trousers, and boots repaired with mismatched leather. Her spell notes are tucked into a waxed canvas pouch. The brass bell hangs from a blue cord at her belt.
Body language
She leans toward whoever is speaking, but her eyes keep flicking to the room's exits and overhead beams. Her fingers tap quick patterns against her thigh. When she is worried, she grips the worn side of her bell handle; when excited, she forgets the bell is there and it knocks against her hip as she talks.

Distinguishing features
Personality
13 traits and drivesFekta is exuberant and generous, but her confidence can become a battering ram. She treats a new problem as an invitation and a warning as a puzzle to solve around. With frightened people she becomes unexpectedly patient, offering simple choices and staying close; with officials who delay urgent work she gets sharp, impatient, and very hard to redirect. When alone, she is more methodical than she lets on, rehearsing spells until her hands shake.

Possessions
Background
Fekta grew up among the workers who cleared the reed-choked ground around Split Ford, where a road crew was trying to make a crossing safe for carts. Her mother, Sela, kept the crew's meal fire going; her father, Bako, hauled stone. Fekta was always the one who climbed the half-built scaffolds to see what could be done faster. At seventeen, a sudden storm trapped the crew on the wrong bank. Her magic erupted for the first time, blasting a channel through a barricade and saving several workers, but the surge also set fire to a supply wagon. She never forgot the faces of the people who lost their tools. After that, she learned enough spellcraft from a passing hedge mage, Neri, to shape her power, though no amount of practice has made it fully predictable. Now she takes short jobs repairing storm damage, lighting workshops, and escorting caravans. She is still close to Sela, who thinks Fekta ought to stay somewhere long enough to be counted on. Bako disappeared on a surveying trip two years ago, and Fekta keeps taking work along the old road in hopes of finding a trace of him. She recently promised a local miller, Odo, that she could stabilize his waterwheel before the spring floods. She means to do it, but the job is harder than she admitted.
