Appearance
Mairenn Tovale is a narrow, weathered man whose body seems assembled from cord, knotted wood, and patient balance. His skin is sun-browned and finely creased, with a texture like old parchment softened by years of rain. He keeps his silver hair in a long, meticulously combed braid that reaches his waist, but his beard is deliberately uneven, with one side trimmed close and the other left in a soft, untidy fan. Within a minute of meeting him, people notice that his eyes rarely settle on faces. They travel instead to door hinges, loose stones, wrists, belts, and the hands of anyone carrying food. He moves with a quiet forward lean, as though listening to the ground through his soles. His voice and manner suggest frailty, yet when he sits he occupies space like a boulder. The contradictory impression is unmistakable: he looks like a man who might need help crossing a room, but every chair near him feels claimed by something immovable.
“His voice is low, dry, and unexpectedly musical. He speaks slowly when teaching, rapidly when embarrassed, and becomes almost whisperingly precise when angry.”

Distinguishing Features
A waist-length silver braid carefully combed every morning, paired with an intentionally lopsided beard.
His hands are stained permanently with blue dye from years of mending prayer flags and fishing nets.
He wears a cracked bronze bell on a cord around his wrist, but it has been stuffed with wool so it never rings.
He smells faintly of cedar smoke, boiled ginger, and river mud.
His left sandal has a red thread tied around the ankle, replaced every sunset without explanation.
Voice
“A soft baritone with a river-stone rasp, gentle enough to invite confidence and sharp enough to stop a room.”
Clothing
A layered ash-gray robe patched with blue thread, a faded green sash, soft leather footwraps, and a sleeveless traveling coat lined with pockets. His clothing is impeccably clean but visibly repaired by hand.
Body Language
He rests two fingers against the nearest solid surface whenever he stops moving. During conversation, he makes tiny adjustments to his sleeves and sandals, as if keeping his body aligned with invisible lines in the floor.
