Appearance
Nera is a lean, weather-burnished woman whose movements are economical until danger appears, when she becomes startlingly quick and low to the ground. Her wrapped face leaves only her eyes visible, but the mask's filter clicks softly before she speaks, creating a recognizable pause that people learn to fear or trust. She stands with one heel slightly lifted, as if waiting for the sand to shift beneath her, and rarely puts equal weight on both feet. Her stillsuit is patched with mismatched panels of gray, ochre, and faded teal cloth, each repair sewn with bright copper thread. Flowing fabric strips trail from her shoulders and calves, snapping like pennants in the wind. The contradictory detail is a tiny porcelain bead braided into her hood, polished smooth and painted with a cheerful yellow flower, an almost childish ornament against her severe survival gear.
“Measured and low, with a dry rasp from filtered air. She pauses for one deliberate breath before important names, and her sentences often end in a practical instruction rather than an emotional conclusion.”

Distinguishing Features
Her mask clicks twice before every sentence, even when no filter adjustment is needed.
She keeps one heel lifted whenever she stands still.
A small porcelain bead painted with a yellow flower hangs from her hood.
Her copper-thread repairs form an accidental constellation across her left shoulder.
She smells faintly of dry stone, bitter herbs, and ozone after storms.
Voice
“A low contralto softened by the constant whisper of a breathing filter, with a faint metallic click before each sentence and a sudden warmth when she speaks to children.”
Clothing
A weathered patched stillsuit under a sleeveless sand cloak, layered hood, sealed breathing mask, soft wrapped boots, copper-thread repairs, flexible armor plates at the ribs, and long cloth panels designed to confuse the outline of her body in a storm.
Body Language
Nera waits with her weight on the balls of her feet and one heel raised. She turns her head before turning her eyes, habitually scans the horizon, and touches the porcelain flower on her hood whenever someone mentions the buried city.
