Descriptor
The adjective records temperament, training and the trade-offs that shaped you.

Four ways into the story
Choose your Type
Type is not a fixed job. It is the mechanical foundation you combine with a Descriptor and Focus to make a character specific to your setting.
Warrior
Uses training, endurance and combat control to protect allies and decide how a fight unfolds.
Adept
Shapes the strange through knowledge and supernatural abilities, usually with a strong Intellect Pool.
Explorer
Adapts to uncertain ground, brings practical expertise and keeps the group moving into the unknown.
Speaker
Leads through language, insight and social skill, changing minds before a conflict needs to begin.
Three Pools, one clear sheet
Edge reduces the cost of tasks tied to a Pool. Effort lets you spend more to improve the odds or increase an effect. The builder calculates both beside the Pools they change.

Is this Cypher System character generator free?
Yes. You can build and review a complete rules-correct character without an account. Sign in only when you want to save the character to your RPG Workshop collection.
Which Cypher System rules does the generator use?
It uses the classic character creation rules in the open Cypher System Reference Document dated 22 August 2025. The rules catalogue is versioned so a saved build can always identify its source baseline.
What makes a Cypher System character?
A character is expressed as a sentence: I am an adjective noun who verbs. In rules terms, that means a Descriptor, a Type and a Focus, with an optional Flavour that replaces selected Type abilities.
Can I create characters above Tier 1?
Yes. The builder supports Tier 1 through Tier 6 and records Pool, Edge, Effort and skill advancements for every completed tier.
Is the generator only for fantasy games?
The page begins with fantasy-friendly examples, but the Cypher System supports many genres. The open catalogue includes broad character options that can suit science fiction, modern, horror and mixed settings.
How are my character statistics calculated?
Every Pool point, Edge value, ability, skill and item comes from the versioned rules catalogue and your explicit choices. The review sheet also keeps a source-linked audit of the applied grants.
