Varric Manor
A noble meeting turns into a hostage scramble through candlelit halls and family betrayal.
House Varric's manor has been turned into a temporary meeting place for a discreet hiring negotiation, complete with travel manifests, sealed letters, and guarded hospitality. Before the deal can be finalized, rival kin and hired knives have moved in to sabotage the arrangement and seize the VIP who must be delivered safely to the road.
The manor keeps its old warmth in the public halls, but deeper rooms feel cold, drafty, and faintly sour with mildew and spilled wine. Candles gutter in brass sconces, distant arguments echo through the plaster, and every corridor seems to carry the hush of servants trying not to be noticed.
☠ Threat
A faction of disgruntled relatives, led by the lord's ambitious cousin, has seized key passages and hired mercenaries to stop the VIP from leaving with the party. Their goal is to embarrass the house, claim the negotiations for themselves, and either kidnap or coerce the VIP before the scheduled departure. The deeper chambers hide the cousin's strongest supporters and the leverage they intend to use.
History
House Varric built this manor to host mercantile negotiations, marriage talks, and private audiences away from the city courts. When word spread that a well-connected VIP would arrive to discuss future employment and safe travel, the lord converted the older east wing into a secure receiving suite. The family rivalry over inheritance turned bitter at the same time, and now the manor is being used by both blood kin and hired agents to settle old grievances.
Encounter Table
CRHouse servants and minor retainers sweeping halls for intruders, carrying improvised weapons and lanterns.

A frightened kennel hound that has picked up the scent of the party or the VIP.
Rumours & Whispers

The family feud is worse than gossip says, and one cousin has brought armed men into the manor.
A hidden corridor in the manor can reach the rear gate without passing the front hall.

Corridor Notes
Portraits of stern ancestors line the walls, and several have been freshly slashed by a blade or claw.
A side corridor smells of incense and wet wool, with boot prints tracked through a recent spill of lamp oil.
A concealed servant route lets muffled voices carry from one wing to another, especially near the guest quarters.
A long gallery holds a cracked family crest mosaic that has been carefully scraped to obscure one branch of the lineage.
