The Weeping Root

Beneath the endless rain, a forgotten guardian cries through the roots.

14 roomsA rain forest that never stops raining medium

The Weeping Root lies beneath the Verdant Maw, a seven-level sanctuary carved into the petrified root system of a colossal world-tree. Rain pours through every passage despite the dungeon being buried, and the lower chambers pulse with the grief of Nhalu, an ancient rain guardian whose damaged prison now threatens to drown some communities while starving others.

Endless rain drums through stone, root, and drowned timber. Every chamber glistens with black water, green phosphorescence, and curtains of falling water that seem to descend from nowhere. The air smells of wet bark, mud, old incense, and charged metal, while distant thunder answers whispers spoken near the living roots.

☠ Threat

Nhalu, the Gentle Deluge, is both prisoner and disaster. Its damaged seal leaks sentient rain into the dungeon, animating drowned guardians and twisting the root system into defensive growth. Nhalu does not seek simple destruction, but its grief has become a flood-mind that cannot distinguish betrayers from innocents. Pell wants to drain its storm-sap, while Oruza seeks a new covenant before the rainforest's communities are overwhelmed.

History

The Verdant Maw's first river clans built the Weeping Root inside the fossilized roots of an ancient world-tree. They summoned Nhalu, a sentient spirit of rain and storm, to shield the rainforest from armies and drought. The clans promised to maintain open channels, honor the dead, and share the water. Generations later, rulers sealed Nhalu away, harvested its storm-sap, and erased the original covenant from their records.
