Rootbound Waystation
Every road beneath Dornruh leads somewhere, but not always where you meant to go.
Beneath the quiet forest settlement of Dornruh lies the Rootbound Waystation, an ancient refuge built around a magical waystone. Its upper tunnels have collapsed into storage vaults and bunks, while deeper chambers descend into a flooded shrine and a sealed prison where an intelligence of the forest still dreams.
Damp earth, wet roots, and old wood fill the air beneath Dornruh. Lanterns burn with a greenish flame near the waystone, while distant footsteps echo from corridors that seem to shift when no one is watching.
☠ Threat
Veyruun, the Bound Road, is an ancient intelligence woven through roots, stone, and memory. It is awakening beneath Dornruh and unconsciously rearranging paths, erasing familiar roads, and drawing travelers into the tunnels. Veyruun is not malicious, but it remembers the old invasion and sees every armed stranger as a possible herald of its return. The characters must decide whether to re-seal it, bargain with it, or release it.
History
Long before Dornruh became a settlement, forest wardens built the Rootbound Waystation around a fallen waystone that could bend distance. When an invading host threatened the ancient woods, the wardens bargained with a forest intelligence called Veyruun. Veyruun would twist roads against invaders, while the founders would maintain its prison and send chosen keepers to renew the pact. Over generations, the promise was forgotten.

Corridor Notes
Thin silver roots cross the walls like veins. They twitch when someone carrying the pathfinder's mark passes nearby.
Faded waystone symbols point toward rooms that no longer exist, while fresh scratches mark routes used by missing travelers.
Small niches hold clay cups, rusted walking staffs, and prayer ribbons left by generations of waystation keepers.
Black iron nails driven into the stone form crude compass roses. Several point in different directions at once.
