Varek Thrice-Corded, Ash Cantor of the Obsidian Tribunal

Obsidian Tribunal cultists believe terror is a holy lever that opens the world to conquest. This one is a rite-keeper and delay specialist, trained to stand calm behind cover while allies, or fear itself, do the real killing. The black cord on the wrist is a mark of office, signifying that they are authorized to begin a rite even while under attack.

Fanatical Composure. The cultist has advantage on saving throws against being frightened while it can hear a spoken prayer, chant, or command from an ally.
Roadside Cover Tactics. While the cultist is in half cover, ranged attack rolls against it are made with disadvantage if the attacker is more than 30 feet away and cannot see the cultist clearly.
Rite Keeper. The cultist can speak and intone its rites even while threatened, and it treats the ambush as a sacred delay rather than a desperate fight.
Obsidian Dagger. Melee Weapon Attack: to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 () piercing damage plus 3 () necrotic damage.
Ashen Word. Ranged Spell Attack: to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 9 () necrotic damage, and the target cannot take reactions until the start of the cultist's next turn.
Chant of Dread. The cultist tears a black cord from its wrist and intones a rite in a calm, measured voice. Each enemy of the cultist within 15 feet that can hear it must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of its next turn. A creature that succeeds is immune to this cultist's Chant of Dread for 24 hours.
Punish the Exposed. When a creature the cultist can see moves into the open from cover within 30 feet, the cultist makes one Obsidian Dagger attack against that creature.
