The Aqueduct's Three Commands
The circular stone chamber smells of wet limestone and old iron. Blue light wavers across a shallow basin, a bronze bell, and a barred gate set into the far wall. Three handles stand on a waist-high plate, each stamped with a channel, a bell, or a rising gate. Water ticks through a narrow sluice, and every few seconds the gate gives a low, expectant groan.
