After leaving Silverford Crossing at dusk, the caravan camps near an otherworldly grove suffused with pulsating light. The PCs are drawn to investigate. Within the grove lies an unstable leyline rift warping nature—and three Shadowspawn Skirmishers sworn to defend it. The encounter tests exploration, skill use, and combat. Use dim light and difficult terrain to shape tactics. A successful seal (DC 13 Arcana or Nature) will stabilize the breach, preventing further planar influence.

Where the Woods Learned to Glow
The road from Silverford Crossing thins into a hush of bent grass and black-rooted trees, where dusk seems to settle early and linger like breath on glass. Ahead, the grove pulses with an inner light—soft at first, then faintly throbbing, as if some hidden heart beats beneath the earth. Every few seconds the glow slips through the trunks in veins of silver-violet radiance, revealing warped bark, warped shadows, and the impossible geometry of a place touched by something beyond the world. The ground inside the grove is uneven and treacherous: slick with luminous moss in some places, choked with thorny undergrowth in others, and threaded by root ridges that snag boots and turn clean movement into a cautious crawl. Somewhere within the dimness, something watches. Shadowspawn Skirmishers prowl the perimeter of the rift, territorial and unnervingly coordinated, their territory marked by clawed bark, smeared black sap, and the remains of animals or careless travelers who came too close. The air tastes of ozone, loam, and old moonlight.
Charred waymarker beside the grove
“The light is not a lantern. It is a wound, and the woods are learning to bleed.”
Whisperbloom Grove
Shade-of-Needle, Shadowspawn Skirmisher
A disciplined shadow-touched grove defender that has learned the pulse of an unstable leyline rift and the pathing of the roots around it. This is the leader-like hunter of the trio, a patient ambusher that isolates intruders, marks territory with unnatural signs, and turns the grove's dim light and difficult terrain into a killing ground.
Ashen Dart
A mobile Shadowspawn Skirmisher built to harry intruders in a dim, difficult grove. Also called Ashen Dart, Briarshade, or Whisp-Runner, it is the pack's runner and herder, slipping between trunks to push prey away from the leyline rift or into natural hazards.
Thorn-of-Gloam
A bound shadow-briar sentinel that holds the line at an unstable leyline rift and grows stronger in the rift’s pulsing light.

Leyline Afterglow
The grove flickers with unstable planar light; shadows move half a heartbeat out of sync with their owners, and roots occasionally twitch as if something beneath the soil is trying to surface.
Dim light counts as difficult terrain; creatures attempting Stealth in the grove gain advantage if they use cover, but Arcana or Nature checks to interact with the rift are easier to attempt after observing the light patterns for a full round.
