The Bound Library
A sprawling, three-story stone complex partially sunken into a salt marsh. Its once-white marble walls are stained with black mold and choked by creeping ivy. Great fissures run through the masonry, and the central dome has partially collapsed, allowing wind and rain to scour the upper galleries. Inside, rows of massive stone shelves reach toward vaulted ceilings, though many have buckled under the weight of time and dampness.

The Bound Library
The air is thick with the scent of wet parchment, ozone, and ancient dust. A heavy, magical silence hangs over the halls, broken only by the rhythmic drip of water and the occasional shuffling of unseen things between the stacks. Magical lanterns flicker with a dying, violet light.

History
Restricted Soul-Bound Collection
Located in the sub-basement, these books are chained to their shelves with silver links. Each volume contains the trapped consciousness of a lesser mage. To read a book, a visitor must succeed on a DC 18 Charisma saving throw or have their own consciousness swapped with the book's inhabitant for 1d4 hours.
Arcane Cataloging System
The archive utilizes a 'Living Index,' a floating crystalline eye that follows visitors. If asked for a topic, it leads the way. However, in its current state, the index is senile and often leads parties into hazardous areas, such as the flooded 'Section of Infinite Corridors' or straight into the lair of the Marrow-Eater.
Environmental Hazards and Wards
Due to the library's decay, the structural integrity is a constant threat. Areas of the floor are prone to collapsing (DC 16 Dexterity save). Furthermore, residual 'Silence' spells have become permanent and mobile, drifting through the halls like invisible clouds that prevent spellcasting with verbal components.
Denizens

A rusted, four-armed bronze construct that wanders the halls attempting to re-shelve books. It often 'fixes' torn pages by sewing them together with copper wire.
A Bone Golem that has integrated hundreds of stray scrolls into its frame. When it strikes, it occasionally triggers a random 3rd-level spell effect from its paper skin.
Rumors & Plot Hooks
- 1.A legendary scroll detailing the true name of a pit fiend is hidden in a hollowed-out book in the basement.
- 2.The library does not exist in one place; it shifts between the Material Plane and the Shadowfell every full moon.
- 3.The dampness in the lower levels is not water, but the liquefied remains of the original apprentices.
Classified Entry
The entire library is a dormant Mimic of Colossal proportions. While it no longer has the energy to consume intruders whole, it feeds on the memories of those who read the books within its walls.
