The Ash-Walkers
The Ash-Walkers were born during the Siege of Valerost three years ago when the Kaiser's 7th Division was ordered to hold a doomed fort as a distraction. Abandoned by their high command and subjected to days of relentless white phosphorus shelling, the survivors crawled into the soot-clogged industrial sewers. Instead of dying, they mutated their grief into a violent rejection of the Imperial Cult. They emerged from the ruins not as soldiers of the Crown, but as vengeful ghosts. They have since expanded into a network of disillusioned factory workers and deserting trench-fighters, turning the very industrial machinery of the empire against itself.

Overview
How it began
General Varick Thorne, a decorated hero of the Kaiser's early campaigns, saw his entire command incinerated by 'friendly' artillery to mask a strategic retreat. Thorne survived by burying himself under the cooling bodies of his adjutants. He spent forty days in the ruins, breathing through charcoal-filled rags, until he gathered enough survivors to form the first cell of the insurgency.

Where it leads
A world where the borders of empires are burned away, replaced by a self-sustaining federation of industrial city-states governed by those who actually bleed for them.
How others see them
The public is split. To the suffering workers of Oakhaven, they are 'the spirits of justice.' To the loyalist citizens and the nobility, they are 'filthy rats' and 'vile terrorists' who want to see the world burn.
