Sarnean Pack Lizard

Merchants in the Sarnean Hubs prize the breed for its predictable temperament and ability to cross dunes quickly. Rumors say certain noble houses keep silver-banded bloodlines that can travel longer without water, but such claims are often trade hype.

Desert-Bred Endurance. The lizard has advantage on saving throws against extreme heat effects and environmental effects from sandstorms and can go without water for 2 days longer than an ordinary creature of its size before suffering levels of exhaustion.
Pack-Bred Strength. The lizard is trained to accept riders and packs. It can carry up to three times the normal carrying capacity of a creature its Strength would indicate due to selective breeding and pack-fitting. A Medium rider and gear can ride without penalty as long as the lizard is not overburdened.
Steady Mount. While it is being ridden, the Sarnean Pack Lizard adds +1 to the save DC of rider mounted checks to remain mounted and to checks to control the mount in difficult terrain.
Hardy but Vulnerable. If reduced to 0 hit points, the lizard collapses; a Wisdom (Medicine) check or 5 points of healing stabilizes it. If a rider or handler spends 10 minutes tending the animal with appropriate supplies, it regains hit points and regains a semblance of calm.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 () piercing damage. If the target is a creature smaller than the lizard, the Sarnean Pack Lizard can attempt to grapple it as a free extra action on the same turn (escape ).
Hoof Stomp. Melee Weapon Attack: to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 () bludgeoning damage. If the Sarnean Pack Lizard moved at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with this attack, the target must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Packmaster's Adjustment. As an action, the Sarnean Pack Lizard can make a free Strength (Athletics) check to secure or adjust its cargo and saddle. On a success the creature carrying the saddle gains advantage on checks to stay mounted for 1 minute. If used to secure a rider, the rider gains +1 to saving throws to avoid being unseated for 1 minute.
Interpose for Rider. When a creature knocks a rider from its saddle within 5 feet of the lizard, the Sarnean Pack Lizard can interpose. The rider gains bonus to AC against that triggering attack, and the attacker must succeed on a Strength check or be pushed back 5 feet.
