Root-Tangle Hulk

The Root-Tangle Hulks were first woven during the War of the Severed Branch. The druids realized that normal wooden golems were too vulnerable to fire, so they bred a specific strain of fire-reactive fungus to grow within the vines, creating a defensive mechanism that turns an attacker's flame into a tactical disadvantage.

False Appearance. While the hulk remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a normal mound of forest debris or a tangled root system.
Grub Carrier. The hulk carries a Swarm of Rot-Grubs inside its rib-cage. When the hulk is reduced to 0 hit points, or if it takes more than 20 damage in a single turn, the swarm emerges in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the hulk and acts on its own initiative. While inside the hulk, the swarm has total cover.
Cinder Cloud. When the hulk takes fire damage, it does not take double damage; instead, it releases a 20-foot-radius cloud of choking ash. The area is heavily obscured until the end of the hulk's next turn. Any creature that starts its turn in the cloud must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be Poisoned until the end of its next turn.
Multiattack. The hulk makes two Slamming Vine attacks. It can replace one of these attacks with a Constrict attack if it has a target grappled.
Slamming Vine. Melee Weapon Attack: to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 14 () bludgeoning damage plus 3 () piercing damage. If the target is a Medium or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape ). The hulk has two vines, each of which can grapple one target.
Constrict. The hulk crushes a creature it is currently grappling. The target must make a Strength saving throw, taking 22 () bludgeoning damage on a failure, or half as much on a success. The target remains restrained.
Root Trip. When a creature the hulk can see moves out of a space within 15 feet of it, the hulk can cause roots to erupt. The creature must succeed on a Strength saving throw or fall prone and have its speed reduced to 0 until the start of its next turn.
