Kallista Echo Valerius
Kallista Echo Valerius
At the table
Voice
Breathy and rhythmic, with a slight echo as if two people are speaking in unison.
Echo speaks in a soft, melodic voice that sounds like falling snow, often repeating the last word of a person's sentence to show false attentiveness.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Echo plays the role of the humble expert, making the players feel like they are the ones in charge while subtly steering their decisions.
Goal
Open the monastery's back gate at midnight on the next full moon.
Motivation
To secure the release of their younger sister by ensuring Lord Vayn's forces can bypass the monastery's main gate.
Appearance
Echo possesses a striking, bruised-violet complexion that seems to absorb the harsh mountain light. Their most arresting feature is their silver eyes, which lack pupils and shimmer like mercury. They are tall and lithe, moving with a fluid, silent grace that makes them seem to float over snow. Their horns are slender and sweep back into a crown of sharp points, each intricately wound with fine silver wire that catches the wind to produce a low, melodic hum. Paradoxically, while they wear the rugged, salt-stained furs of a mountain traveler, they possess the delicate, un-calloused hands of a courtier.
Clothing
Heavy wolf-fur cloak over layered leathers stained with mountain salt and travel grime, featuring hidden pockets for scouting gear.
Body language
Echo keeps their hands hidden in their sleeves and leans slightly forward when listening, giving the impression of intense interest.

Personality
9 traits and drivesEcho is a master of mirrored empathy, presenting a calm and helpful facade that puts the desperate refugees at ease. They are genuinely patient with the elderly but secretly disdainful of the Refugee Leader's perceived weakness. Internally, they are a storm of calculation, constantly weighing the life of their kidnapped sister against the lives of the monastery inhabitants. They act with absolute certainty in public but suffer from bouts of silent, staring paralysis when alone in the dark.

Background
Originally a cartographer in the lowlands, Echo's life was shattered when the warlord Lord Vayn razed their village. Recognizing Echo's photographic memory for terrain, Vayn spared them on the condition that they act as his eyes in the mountains. For six months, Echo has moved among the Sky-Reach Monastery refugees, providing legitimate help to build cover while secretly mapping the monastery's rear defenses. Every three days, they send a coded message via a trained mountain falcon, knowing that any failure results in their sister's death.
Role in the story
Echo serves as a double agent who will eventually lead the players into an ambush unless their true allegiance is discovered through their suspicious interest in the Abbess's chambers.
