Appearance
Elder Ysra Vale is a weather-cut woman with a long, narrow face and the stillness of a heron waiting beside dark water. Her movements are economical, almost unnervingly quiet, even when she crosses loose gravel. A white scar runs from her left temple to the corner of her mouth, pulling her expression into what looks like a permanent half-smile. Her hands are knotted with old injuries, but her fingers remain startlingly quick around a bowstring. The unexpected contradiction is her softness toward small living things: moss, moths, injured birds, and especially children. She will stop mid-command to move a beetle from a doorway.
“Low, clipped, and deliberate. Ysra speaks as though every word must survive a long journey through the trees.”

Distinguishing Features
A pale scar from the left temple to the mouth.
A longbow made from blackthorn, repaired with three silver staples.
A green child's scarf hidden beneath her coat.
A small iron key worn inside a leather cord around her wrist.
The habit of staring at empty spaces as though listening to someone standing there.
Voice
“A low contralto roughened by smoke, cold air, and years of giving commands through rain. It carries farther than it seems possible without ever becoming a shout.”
Clothing
A dark moss-green wool coat reinforced with strips of boiled leather, a weather-faded gray scarf, soft mud-colored trousers, and knee-high boots wrapped in silent felt. Her coat is lined with pockets containing chalk, thread, dried berries, spare bowstrings, and tiny carved markers used by the watch.
Body Language
Ysra stands with her weight balanced over the balls of her feet, as if expecting the ground to move. She rarely turns her back on a doorway. When angry, she smooths the scar at her mouth with one thumb. When grief breaks through her discipline, she folds and refolds a child's green scarf inside her coat.
