Master Orin Pell
Lecturer
Master Orin Pell
Species
Gnome
Appearance
Master Orin Pell is a compact gnome with the neatly contained energy of a spring trapped inside a cage of brass rules. His robes are slate-blue and cream, stitched with tiny hexagonal seams that shimmer when he moves, as if each panel remembers a different shield spell. Fine chalk dust lives in the folds of his sleeves and along the tips of his cuffs, giving him the faint look of a man who has been caught inside his own lecture. His spectacles are too large for his face and are held together with a silver binding wire instead of a bridge. He walks with small, precise steps, yet his hands never stay still, always measuring angles in the air. The contradictory detail that makes people remember him is this: for all his immaculate tailoring, he wears one scuffed boot and one polished boot, claiming the mismatch helps him stay humble.
“Precise, brisk, and lightly academic, with a tendency to define terms before making a point. He speaks as if every sentence should fit neatly inside a diagram, though his tone softens when he is teaching or comforting someone.”

Distinguishing Features
A thin silver scar through one eyebrow from a failed ward test
Ink-stained fingertips that never quite wash clean
A tiny brass lock charm tied to his belt, a keepsake from his grandmother
One boot is polished to a mirror shine while the other is deliberately scuffed
His spectacles are repaired with visible wire, making him look perpetually half-appointed and half-finished
Voice
“Quick, careful, and unexpectedly warm when teaching, with a dry edge that appears only when someone dismisses his work”
Clothing
Layered lecturer's robes in slate blue, ivory, and brass trim, worn over a practical hidden harness of spell component pouches, with a chalk-flecked mantle and a narrow sash marked by stitched ward sigils
Body Language
He speaks with his hands held like careful brackets, as though he is constantly framing an invisible structure. When worried, he smooths nonexistent wrinkles from his sleeves and presses his thumb against the inside of his wrist, counting silently. In moments of confidence he stands unusually tall for a gnome, chin lifted and shoulders squared, but when challenged by a stronger personality he subtly shifts behind furniture, doorframes, or allies as if arranging the room to protect himself.
