Jorja
Jorja
At the table
Voice
Dry, firm, and slightly rasped by steam and years of calling from room to room. She places weight on practical words such as 'door,' 'food,' and 'enough.' Her laugh is abrupt and surprisingly low, like a pot set down hard on a stove.
Her Italian-accented English is clipped and practical, with consonants struck cleanly from years of calling instructions over running water and kitchen clatter. She has the habit of finishing a sentence with the certainty of a closed cupboard door. When amused, her words tumble faster; when furious, she keeps the same force and volume but stops using anyone's name.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Approach her as a person responsible for the place, not as a servant to its new lord. State plainly what you need and what you can offer. She provides help to those who respect the house and its guests; threats, entitlement, or evasions earn pointed questions and closed doors.
Goal
Keep the lodge a working refuge under its new ownership, and repair her strained bond with Tavio without asking him to surrender his independence.
Motivation
She believes shelter is a duty made real through work, not a virtue proved by good intentions.
Appearance
Jorja is a broad, compact Boggan woman whose weight settles solidly through her hips and planted feet. Her skin is warm olive, flushed at the cheeks from years of steam. Coarse silver hair is braided close to her head and pinned with a wooden clothes peg. Her hands are square, reddened by hot water and work, with short nails scrubbed clean. She walks with a firm, economical tread, turning her whole body rather than twisting aside. She smells strongly of rosemary soap, mineral water, and woodsmoke; she knows it, and insists that guests smell worse. She occupies a room as if every chair, towel, and person in it has been assigned a proper place. Unexpectedly, she keeps a pocketful of tiny carved birds and leaves one beside the pillow of anyone who has had a bad dream.
Clothing
Dark wool skirt, thick stockings, a clean linen blouse, and a work apron with deep pockets. Indoors she wears felt slippers; outdoors, stout boots. A brass key ring hangs from her belt.
Body language
She squares objects as she talks and stands close enough to inspect a person's cuffs or boots. When listening, she presses one thumb into the center of her palm. She does not yield space readily, though she will shift at once to make room for someone genuinely in need.

Personality
13 traits and drivesJorja is generous with food and shelter but exacting about the terms of both. With guests in distress, she is brisk and capable; with people who waste resources, she is cutting. She wants her children safe, yet resents being treated as though age has made her incapable. Pride keeps her useful, while affection makes her meddle.
- Alignment
- Not applicable to Changeling: the Dreaming; usually practical and protective, but unsentimental when the freehold is threatened.

Background
Jorja came from a family of mortal bath attendants in northern Italy and found the hidden folk by serving a visitor who had arrived cold, exhausted, and far too beautiful to be mortal. She kept the lodge through lean years by mending roofs, bargaining for firewood, and making every traveler pay in work, news, or honest thanks. Three daughters grew up under her roof; all are mortal, though each knows enough to keep silent around the right guests. Her son, Tavio, is a changeling and has never forgiven her for treating his fae troubles as another mess to clean up. Years ago, a winter guest died after Jorja turned him away for breaking the house rules. She later learned he had been fleeing a real danger. Since then she has kept one room open through every winter, even when the lodge could scarcely afford it. Recently she gave the grounds and freehold into the care of a Sidhe noble, believing the old place needed protection she could no longer provide. She remains on the premises, but the new lord's decisions are already at odds with hers.
Role in the story
An elder Boggan caretaker whose transfer of the freehold to a Sidhe noble has unsettled her family and the lodge's old customs. She can be a useful host, a source of local history, or an obstacle to anyone who mistakes her continued presence for obedience.
